People want doorless showers but most of them don't have the space in their bathroom that would be required to build one that works properly.
Some of them can't accept that fact and try to build one that relies entirely on the delusion that water respects boundaries.
They're terrible. Everything you said is true, but I'll add that unless you crank up the heat in the room, they're miserable on cold days. The enclosed showers trap the steam and warmth from the how water in with you, but with no door it's just cold.
That's 100% a hotel, though.
Hotels love installing these things. They’re cheaper than two large shower doors, they make the room look bigger, and guests think it looks modern.
That said, you’re kind of supposed to pair this with a rain shower head in the ceiling to reduce splash. This looks like a remodeled hotel that didn’t want to move the plumbing. They just did a cheap refresh to make people feel like they were staying in a modern room.
I stayed at a hotel in Vegas (of course) that had no doors on theirs. Just an open, locker-room-style shower. And the floor was barely level enough to not flood the bathroom if the shower head was pointed directly at the corner. It was not pointing the right way when I turned it on.
The opening is too wide, the shower head should be a rainfall shower, not the Commando 450.
Nah. Ours is a rainfall shower but the floor still gets wet.
I think you're dead-on. I had a 5' wide doorless shower, 3' of glass, and a rainfall showerhead and it was fine. Minimal leakage
As a disabled person who can’t sit or stand up doorless showers are my holy grail I could finally feel fucking clean instead of relying on sponge baths.
I could never afford it though and being severely disabled means I’m poor so yay capitalism.
No offense intended, but isn't that why shower rooms were invented? Waterproof the walls/floor with that cheap plastic stuff, curved edges on the walls for easy cleaning, plastic curtain on rails on the ceiling for blocking most of the water. Slope it down into the floor drain. No steps or doors. Is there really no safety net to get this sort of thing installed where you live? I would happily contribute a bit to a gofundme link for this, and I'm sure there's plenty of others who would too. And the legal system I live under doesn’t have any law to make landlords follow accommodations…
That’s completely fair! Sorry, I underestimated the cost and the problem of getting permission as a renter. I looked into it properly and, although the plastic covering and curtain are cheap, constructing the drainage, sloped floor and waterproofing can still cost around £6,000–£8,500 here. If you’re comfortable saying which country or state you’re in, I’d still be happy to check whether there are any local grants, charities or tenant protections that might help. No need to give your precise location.

Well that's just bad design. The opening is wrong so of course it'll splash and the floor needs to be one level and tilted to the drain.

That just looks like an unfinished shower, or a sliding door set with a missing half. Maybe you could get a little shower curtain to hang up across the hole
I encountered this exact setup at a hotel recently. This seems like a hotel as well with how those bottles are attached to the wall
I like the Japanese style ones where the entire bathroom is the shower. The floor is meant to be wet with the benefit of just being able to spray the entire bathroom down when it needs cleaning.
This one just makes no sense.
Why even have a doorless/curtainless shower? I don't understand the appeal. How is the warmth supposed to stay in so you're not shaving off the tips of goosebumps?
Shower doors are difficult to clean well, shower curtains stick to the body, space is limited (problem if you're bigger), steam can make it harder to breathe...
Finns have figured out doorleess showers: they waterproof the whole room and equip it with a squeegee on a long stick. The floor is flat with a slight slope towards the drain. After you're done you just wipe the floor with the squeegee (takes 10 seconds) and that's it.
The Japanese did it right. Essentially the same thing you’re describing and in a way that mitigates anything commenters below you blurted out.

They shouldn't. If this is new enough construction, the contractor needs to fix this.
The shower-head is the issue. Doorless installs like that need a rain shower head.
Yeah, I don't get this new trend of doorless showers. One of the many modern interior designs I think are bad/ugly. What's the deal with modern minimalism? Shit is ugly.
Also, this kind of design is gonna make for cold ass showers in the winter unless you pump your heat all day and night.
That floor is not meant to be in a bath tho
My fav is the ones that just say fuck it and make the whole bathroom into a shower; as if people don't keep anything else in the bathroom, like idk towels or the clothes you're putting on after you shower...
I didn't want a practical bathroom anyway...
This is the way most Japanese showers are set up, and it works well because the shower/tub, toilet, and sink/storage area are three separate rooms.
Here is a (simplified approximation of a) common layout:
When the shower is literally alone in its own room, that's a little different.
I'm talking about when the full bathroom; toilet, sink, and shower, are all in the one uninterrupted space.

Doorless showers are great for the elderly, disabled, orgies, you name it- WHEN DONE RIGHT. This is far from correct. The shower spray should be spraying away from the entry, not right fucking at it. It's puzzling because it looks like the control valve is on the near side so they routed the head all the way around to be in the wrong place? Even then, this is kind of a small space for a doorless. Also, one of those stupid corner shelves and a safety handle way the fuck in the corner. Buy a shower rod and floor length curtain to hang inside the glass wall. It'll be real fancy.
This is becoming a staple in cheap and mid-price hotels. I have to use half my towels to keep the floor from being wet.
Meh. They can work if you have the space for them. This one is way to small. But I’ve seen really nice ones executed. You just need more space than most people have for the shower to occupy.
Come to Korea! Many bathrooms are just closets with a toilet and a sink with a shower head attached and you just shower in the bathroom and soak anything that's in there.
Not only that, the draft coming in makes you freezing cold the entire time, forcing you to huddle under the water for most of your shower, thus wasting it and washing away the soap you're trying to lather in.
A hotel I stayed at once had this exact same shower and I can confirm that water did in fact get everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if the building collapsed after a few years due to water damage rotting/eroding away the support beams under the floor.
When I used to install custom shower enclosures, I would quietly cringe every time someone wanted one of these awful things. What I would usually compromise with the customer on is, size the panel so that the walk-through opening was sized correctly to accept a stock door, if they want to add one later. I'd say more than half of clients would add the door less than a year later.
Get a spring-loaded window curtain rod, and notch the end that goes against the glass, so it doesn't slip. Throw on a shower curtain liner (they're cheap) and call it a day.
Pretty sure that is a hotel room, nothing a customer could fix. Been to rooms like that and hated the shower.
Every hotel ever these days it seems. I guess it’s cheaper than replacing a curtain, or the curtain rod every jackass seems to have to yank on and bend for some reason.
That is not enough clearance, the door needed to be way longer
I looked at an apartment once where they had a proper door-less shower. You had to, like, walk around a corner to enter it. I considered leasing that apartment just because of the shower, but yeah a proper door-less shower takes up a lot of space.
