The reason tutorials are always based on terminal commands is because it's much harder to describe directions for a GUI, and it's also a lot more prone to change. When the command is just a single line, not images or dependencies, that's obviously better.

TBF, on Debian apt install firefox installs firefox-esr, and on Ubuntu it's a placeholder that installs the snap package. Both work and are clearly better than downloading from random websites, but they do come with surprises for unsuspecting users.
Why is Ubuntu even still relevant?

Don't know what the fuck is going on there, but that's not installing a browser.
Looks like they have a tiling window manager running the 'stat' command on a bunch of kernel files on the left, then a bunch of smaller window tiles having random stuff like garbled text, a resource monitor, and gnucharmap?
They think they are movie hackers sitting in a back seat in a high speed chase going clackity clak ok got it, next light is green.

Real Linux users use Lynx because they fucked up their XF86Config.
You be nice to Lynx. It was the first browser I used way back in the day. Fast and sometimes confusing and limited, it was the perfect experience.
Or the display manager is a bitch with your custom $XAUTHORITY place (looking at you, Lightdm).
Add programs.firefox.enable = true; to configuration.nix.
Call sudo nixos-rebuild switch. Maybe add --flake if you're feeling adventurous.
Done.
Or, more realistically...

dude, don't try to sell me on an easy to configure distro, I'm just finishing up on the configs for my debian home server/sometimes workstation. Definitely don't do it, don't send me down the rabbit hole of reproducebility
As a programmer, the moment I learned about nixos (here on lemmy, if I recall correctly) I knew that'd be the one I'd pick once I found the time to move to linux. It just seemed like a reasonable way of doing things, you know?
Bit of a learning curve, but worth it, I believe.

High-jacking the thread a bit.
As anyone tried Midori recently. I remembered about it this past weekend and when searching I was impressed with the project page.
Installed it on my phone and my computer.
On Android it is not ready yet. Maybe for tablets. The browser did not resize to fit the screen. It also felt heavy. Removed after a few tentative uses.
On PC, the same feeling of being heavy, slow moving. It took a long time to open and start navigating. My computer is not new but it carries itself well enough to start FF in a few seconds.
There are several gui applications for your package manager you can use to install various browsers.
This ironically fits more to windows users trying to uninstall edge
What distros are ya'll using that firefox isn't installed by default?
When I used to be on windows it was a bit of pain to install Firefox via WSL2. I probably had to install like X11 while at it. I also installed modded Minecraft. It ran fabulously at 2 FPS v 1.4.7
i think i never even used a terminal to install a browser and i dabbled with linux on and off for over a decade now. there was always a gui to install a browser. well, not on arch in 2014 but back then i never made it past a half broken desktop enviroment. so my point still stands technically.
