Lovecraft Mythos - Cosmic Horror

H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos is a shared universe far larger and more terrifying than that of humanity, where ancient, malevolent beings known as the Great Old Ones slumber in the depths of space or time. After Lovecraft's death, the Mythos has been expanded and developed by many authors, including August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert E. Howard. These and many other authors have helped to flesh out the Mythos into a rich and complex Dark Universe.

Originally published in 1980’s New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos, Stephen King’s short story Crouch End is getting a series adaptation at Prime Video, Variety reports this week.

The Lovecraftian tale was also featured in King’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes.

“Crouch End” will be a six-part limited series at Prime Video.

“London never sleeps deeply, and its dreams are uneasy. When global movie star Doris Freeman bursts into a London police station claiming that strange phenomena are behind the disappearance of her husband, police inspector Ted Vetter must investigate whether she’s telling the truth, whether she could be a murderer, or whether there’s something even more chilling at play.”

Variety notes in today’s report that Prime Video’s “Crouch End” is being adapted by Paul Tomalin (“Bodies”) and directed by Tom Shankland (“Berlin Noir,” “The Serpent”).

That has always been one of my favorite King short stories, I don't know how they're gonna get 6 episodes out of it without a lot expanding on the original story but I'm cool with that.

They got whole movies out of The Mangler (passable) and Lawnmower Man (very much atrocious), which are only a couple of pages each. King adaptations miss more than they hit, but this definitely has caught my interest.

Two of my favorites are "the mist" and "room 1408" (Tape recorder ending).

It's been a long time since I read this one. I'll have to give it a fresh read.

It's a pretty good one too.

I had zero Lovecraft knowledge when I first read it. Needless to say I was very confused.
