The fact that you guys hold elections on a work day is insane to the rest of the world.
Edit: Apparently some US states allow early voting, as several people have now proudly berated me for not knowing
The funny thing is that vote at home states have several weeks to vote, there's multiple days off already included there in the weekends. So work doesn't have to interfere with voting at all...
Every day is a work day for someone, having a designated day for voting is an outdated way to do it
Oh, I see, so because you can't have perfect, we shouldn't even try to make voting as accessible as possible ? That'sa rather defeatist take.
People can also vote by mail, or even vote early in many countries (for example, 12 days before the actual election day, here in NZ), but I expect you'll find a reason to have a problem with that too?

The main problem isn’t that people can’t find time to vote. It’s that they won’t make time to vote.
Voter turnout in the country isn’t great. We need to institute compulsory voting. There should be absolutely no excuses with at-home voting options.

this is such a good idea, actually if it was a tradition maybe they'd eventually just give the day off as a national holiday as they should.
Personally, I think that there should be a two-week voting windows, and workers should get five days of paid holidays that they can freely use within the voting period. The worker chooses when to use those days, and if they fail to vote, the company they are associated with is fined for a week's worth of the employee's income. The employee also isn't paid for their holiday if they don't vote.
This helps encourage both companies and workers to do their voting. On leap years, the employees should get an extra holiday. Coincidentally, presidential elections are held every four years.

As I still don't get ranked balloting, have 1/2 the seats PR and the other half with majority need to win, otherwise it's run-offs.

Allow convicts to vote—they should have a say in their own punishment, and as prison-crazy as the US is, the incarcerated there are (still) clearly a minority.

Now that's a decent counter-argument.
Our politicians should absolutely have to have a literacy level of 12th-grade or higher.
Unfortunately, this also gives an assist to the conservative plot to get rid of the post office. The fact that tiny-d donnie's plot to also steal an election in the process is a two-fer - reduce trust in an institution like the USPS while installing conservatives into offices that they don't deserve.
But in the short term, I understand why they'd reach for this.
I would hope that every state, including mine, would find a way to allow voters to print their ballot out, fill it out at their own damn leisure, and drop it off at a drop box, also at their leisure.
This will give the cons less of a chokepoint in the future too. The net was supposedly designed to treat censorship as damage and route around it.

I thought the issue was in processing them when they're sent BACK IN, rather than when they were being delivered. If memory serves, the issue was that when processing a group of ballots sent in, if a single envelope had an unreadable signature or something similar they could remove the entire bundle.
How would FedEx or UPS delivering the fresh untouched ballots address this?
The article I read said the USPS rules they’re trying to implement would be to have the postal service pick up and then verify the ballots against the list of voters. If any don’t match they’d be obligated to throw out the entire bunch.

Their plan is 2-fold.

Get rid of mail-in ballots entirely, since it's largely used by Dem voters and they plan to disenfranchise them as much as possible.

Eliminate the USPS so they can outsource it. This is the core of their smaller government bullshit. They don't want a smaller more efficient government, they want to shift it to the private sector for the sole purpose of getting richer. Government agencies work within a set budget and aren't there to turn a profit.
