Can someone tell me why I’m seeing this woman around everywhere?

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

A trailer dropped for some up coming movie with this chick in it and everyone’s been memeing the hell out of it.

Here’s a link to the KnowYourMeme page and the trailer is in there if you want to see where it’s coming from. I’m not directly linking it cause I’m not advertising for them.

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

new documentary coming out soon, called You Can See Everything

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You are an organic meme, not an advertisment being pushed by some big marketing firm to virally promote an upcoming movie, right?

Why would I deceive you?

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 1 points 10 hours ago

Doesn't really work to advertise a film if I don't know what it is and it doesn't give me any desire to see it

I know this is the sad reality at most companies but when I put someone on a PIP I 100% expect them to improve and recover from whatever got them in the PIP.

What is wrong with the bottom of her face? I didn't know, I can't put my finger on it. Like it's out of proportion. Someone fucked with her character creation sliders too much and said "fuck it, ship it! We'll fix it in post."

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Netflix live action Rescue Rangers casting agent dream actress right there.

[–] GenXLiberal@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Cannot unsee it

[–] IamMoonPie@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Here I was having a nice “non-life altering” morning and you had to go and post a thing like this.

[–] lillardfair@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Why'd you have to go and say a thing like that? Here I was, living my life with NO attraction to Elizabeth Holmes...

Well shit, now I can't unsee it. How dare you!

[–] Zink@programming.dev 5 points 1 day ago

I totally see it, and I am totally here for it.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 1 day ago

John Oliver would also self-admittedly fit in a movie featuring anthropomorphic mice. Just maybe not as well for Gadget, specifically.

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I’d watch it

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

Cant wait to see this. She's terrifying and Fielder is imho the perfect foil to interview her.

Its weird cuz she just ripped off a bunch of rich people, I dont really have any reason to hate her really but she's sort of emblematic of what is problematic of startup and tech culture and in a sense identify culture where being the first ___ founder/CEO or one of few ____ founders/CEOs/whatever is part of the pitch.

In a better world it would never have entered the equation much less overshadowed the actual lack of viable product/IP. How did no blood scientist/dr/expert not easily point out their premise was fatally flawed in a way that doomed the whole exercise, both internally and publicly?

There were some after the fact and it was exposed who were casually like "ya, the blood available from a pinprick to the finger doesnt suffice for the grand vision Theranos was sold as and predicated upon

[–] shawn1122@sh.itjust.works 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Her company faked lab results. People were falsely led to believe they had HIV or cancer

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 35 points 1 day ago (3 children)

she just ripped off a bunch of rich people

Her company was sinking its teeth into the medical field though. That could’ve killed people if they weren’t found out soon enough.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

How was it gonna get FDA-approved tho? Im sure its happened before in the past but i wonder what the plan was for that

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Under Trump’s FDA, she could just make a “donation” and it would be approved. Don’t kid yourself that these institutions are— or ever were —sacrosanct.

[–] NoDignity@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not sure what they were doing needed FDA approval since it was a blood test and not something that actually goes into or touches a patient. Though I'm not expert on medical regulations so thats just a guess.

[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Thats why I make it a habit of leaving blood wherever I go, no regulations.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 3 points 23 hours ago

Its just safer that way. Sow your Seed

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They likely did kill people who were using it and would otherwise have consulted with a doctor.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

They were using an actual proper machine made by a competitor i thought? Like wasnt their flagship Edison thingy just a competing actually developed medical device?

How did no blood scientist/dr/expert not easily point out their premise was fatally flawed?

They did. Every expert out there pointed out it's impossible.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 19 points 1 day ago

I remember one former employee posted on reddit without naming the company, saying everything they were claiming was bs. A little later the scandal blew up and it was confirmed the guy worked for Theranos.

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The most depressing thing about this entire ordeal is that the woman stole lots of money, got busted because that money belonged to rich people, and is now after having been convicted and literally been to prison as far as i know, able to cash in on that further. Lets make a movie about that wonderful successful scammer.

[–] Papazoo@piefed.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think there's a law in the states that criminals can't profit from the story of their crime. If I remember correctly, the money that would have gone to the criminal goes to restitution for the victims.

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 2 points 22 hours ago

Assuming that is indeed the case, she still benefits considerably: she gets to stay relevant, develop celebrity, change or affect the public opinion on her. A normal criminal cant even get a job cleaning toilets sometimes.

[–] TherapyGary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Why is this so common, anyway? Why do so many images like this even exist?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 12 points 1 day ago

I would imagine in many cases for images uploaded to an image host, the host is automatically changing the actual format of the image (this happens to me on some sites tho it is pretty rare in 2026). Or it was saved by someone who took a screenshot of the image instead of saving the actual image.

It's probably because of communism.

[–] frog@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why do PNG images with alpha transparencies exists?

Because when put on a background gif transparencies look dithered since gif transparencies are either on or off. There are no 50% or any other partial opacities.

If you are using gifs for like moving pixel art, that's great but if a designer wants a realistic still images with moving clouds in the background, PNG would be a way better option.

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 5 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

They mean 'fake' transparent pngs.

[–] frog@feddit.uk 3 points 20 hours ago

Crap...

That makes sense.

Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Me too kid. Me too

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world -1 points 22 hours ago

Um, ackchually, PNG does not mean that it has an alpha channel. Even JPEG can have alpha channel (though its not standard feature and might break compatibility with some readers), but also AVIF and WebM.
