Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Part of being an adult is knowing that OP needs to mind their own business.

Part of being an adult is eating chicken wings everyday for a week until you get bored because you can. lol

Why the fuck not? I'm not switching to breast. Breast meat sucks.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 days ago

Very limited by choice here if I want frozen chicken. 99% is ultra processed crap. Went through an entire aisle the other day in Iceland and not one raw or even plain cooked option for chicken. Everything was battered or covered in what ever sauce and more expensive because of it.

Aldi had chicken breast and that was the only option.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I believe the idea is fried chicken wings. Fried food is not a good daily meal.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's actually pretty good if you give it some maillard and seasoning. Don't just boil it and expect Popeyes.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It still ain't better than the wings and thighs when they're made the same way.

I don’t really like chicken wings. Too much messy work for too little reward.

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Hold onto the side of the flat with the knuckle cartilage and twist the small bone and pull it out, now you can mouth the whole flat and pull the meat from a single bone or if you twist and pull the bigger bone out you can eat the thing whole except the cartilage.

It is still a lot of work vs reward but the crispness of the skin and sauce holding ability make them worthwhile.

[–] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I can absolutely destroy a plate of wings in like just a couple minutes using this technique and my reckless abandon for devouring cartilage. This is just basically a skill issue

This. In my case, it was realizing that I can have potato chips every day of the week.

[–] portuga@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

That’s exactly what a chicken would say

I don't get the appeal of chicken wings. The amount of work involved vs the meat payout is way lopsided.

[–] hypeerror@sh.itjust.works 20 points 5 days ago (6 children)

Chicken wings are only food on medium difficulty. Whole crabs take more energy to open than you gain from meat.

Why not?

It's a protein, so it really just depends on what your eating with them. As long as you're getting balanced nutrition, there's no reason Chicken Wings can't be the protein choice every day.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

They are fried and fatty. Some protein, but mostly fats. Also, vegetables are made of protein.

[–] MojoMcJojo@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You..you don't have to fry them

Legit baked wing recipe. Baked but they come out as crispy as fried. You use baking powder and dry seasonings and pat the wings dry before baking. So damn good.

Compared to lots of other foods, chicken wings aren't especially unhealthy, I think? They aren't normally deep fried, chicken is a healthier meat than beef or pork, not sure there are good health reasons not to eat them every day? Of course it gets boring after a while.

I remember saying to my roommate at the time, 30+ years ago, something like, "I can just buy and eat cake whenever I want. What the hell?"

This was just before my realization that pie is superior to cake in every way.

200 million chicken get slaughtered each day, they lived a life of horror veyond comprehension. If they are lucky they are the 50% that lands in the meat grinder after birth. And people here are worried that it might be unhealthy or that they need their protein.

Fried chicken from the supermarket deli is affordable. $16 for 12 pieces of dark meat. Enough to give me at least two meals, probably three.

Responsible adulting, requires fried chicken.

reminds me of the saying - the difference between wisdom and knowledge is, knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit and wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

I kind of think along the lines of knowing I could eat a whole dozen donuts and knowing I shouldn’t eat a whole dozen donuts … all bets are off if they’re warm Krispy Kreme

I could, though, it’s an option.

I like the hot sauce lol

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago (6 children)

Wait; what?

I mean, maybe they’re a liiiittle fatty, but I’m not going to be eating boneless skinless chicken breast instead.
