Tesla sold 486,532 electric vehicles during the third quarter of 2026. That’s a 2.1 percent decrease on the same quarter in 2025, when the company found homes for 497,099 EVs, and one might think that would be bad news for a company valued on the premise of near-constant growth.

But Tesla stock is up this morning; the year-over-year numbers might look bad, but the company still exceeded analysts’ expectations of 456,600 cars, which would have been a larger 8 percent year-on-year decline.

My parents’ neighbor got one. Said he’s worried about about what people will think but that it’s his “dream car” or something.

Bruh. Get a Rivian. The Swastikar Deplorean cannot be separated from the batshit far-right antics of Musk.

I hope you let him know what people think about him, anytime I see a cybertruck I think there’s goes some racist douchebag that got duped into paying a lot of money for a wonky refrigerator looking lemon of a car

One day they'll be collectible, like Edsels.

Eh. I don’t really know the guy and have no intention of disrupting my parents’ relationship with their neighbor. He has owned Teslas for many years, since the point where owning one was the opposite political indicator of what owning the Cybertruck is, so I can only hope he’s just entrenched and uncaring rather than actively racist. Who knows.

I will freely admit though that I share your first impression when I see a Swastikar Deplorean in the wild.

The cyber cuck I saw just yesterday had a blue lives matter flag sticker convering 1/3 of the tailgate.

No Punisher sticker? Guy's not serious.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 6 days ago

Good point, but it had the cYbErTrUk graffiti stickers on both sides too.

Rivian is Jeff Bezos, and not everyone wants an oversize truck.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 21 points 1 week ago

The Cybertruck is also fucking huge. And Jeff Bezos is also terrible but not “Nazi salute the president and then slash USAID funding killing shitloads of children” terrible.

Majority stake is owned by Volkswagen group as of May, at about 16%.

Amazon still holds about 13% stake.

All these companies still suck, I just wanted to clarify the ownership.

(Cybertruck is slightly bigger than Rivian truck in almost all dimensions.)

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Is the Cybertruck not an oversized truck (with a lack of utility)?

Total numbers are not as relevant as Tesla's precipitous loss of market share. But it's a meme stock, so money doesn't matter.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Relevance? I imagine people are just buying a different car instead of a bicycle.

I would say this qualifies more as Fuck Elon or Fuck Elon And His Cars, but if you look at it just right it works here.

This is a quarter of record high fuel prices too.
