This is as peaceful as a response to cops maiming children can and should be.

This is what actually fighting back against the system looks like.

Looks like the government has stumbled into the "find out" side of things.

in any different country yes, but for Paris this is business as usual

This comment is more funny when you known this was recorded in Marseille

Completely unaware about the difference. Been to Marseille and Paris once. Care to explain why is it different? Is Marseille more bougie or less than Paris?

All i know is i paid like 50 eur for a fish in Marseille and it was absolutely worth it

Usually Marseille demonstrations are more peacefull. Tradition and habits is to start in the morning then do other things in the afternoon.

With more sensitives places in Paris, protest turn violent quickly because of scared and hatefull cops (a dangerous combo). Also it is after lunch peoples are full of energy (personal hypothesis).

And yes you come in Marseille for soccer and stay for the fishes.

I've never been to Marseille but it has a reputation of being where the mafia is, gang clashes and all, and where there are more of the poor suburbs than Paris. It's also where we see more frequently news of groups of asshole kids using mortars on cops - Paris is not far behind, especially during riots like this one, but around Marseille it just happens sometimes when a kid gets shot because of gang rivalries and cops response with raids blasting doors in apartment buildings because they decided someone lived there. It's also where guns get around, which it doesn't much in Paris or its poorer suburbs, hence the gang problem. A few years ago there was also an incident where firefighters got ambushed there, that one was pretty bad.

I figure actually living there is not close at all to this reputation, but gang shit does happen there.

Seems pretty peaceful to me, the people were defending themselves against armed thugs

[–] Hamartia@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I thought it was peaceful until that idot with the horn ruined things

[–] sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

I thought that was a police horn

Actually, the protests were largely peaceful. But they are so big overall, that even the usual percentage of hooligans amounted to a serious force.

Another good reason for leaders to not give the population a reason to protest. I remember during the BLM protests, trouble makers were setting off fireworks in the middle of crowds. At least one of those shits had their roman candle thrown back into their car before it went off in a crowd.

I love the French's political dissent

Since 18 September 2026, a series of demonstrations and blockades by lycée students has been taking place in France and later Belgium,^[2][3]^ Albania, Greece,^[4]^ and Italy,^[5][6]^ having originated in Créteil, a commune in the suburbs of Paris.^[7]^

I like how several dudes just walk nonchalantly into teargas and towards robo-cops

Yeah that seems pretty standard for a french protest.

Those are kids, not unionists, that's why.
