Reminder: The #fascist #GOP has lost 16 of of the last 19 special elections, even in so called red-states, since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Nationwide, Democrats are beating the polls by +9 points at the voting booth.

If we get out & vote, we'll get to see a formerly orange, ex-billionaire conman die in Federal custody.

[–] CraigeryTheKid@lemm.ee 40 points 7 months ago

"if we get out and vote" being the key unknown here. People gotta vote.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 63 points 7 months ago (4 children)

I've thought this for a while now. They don't actually care about abortion. They're doing this to drive people out of the state long term who vote against their party so they can further cement control of the state and eventually federal government.

The point isn't to attack abortion or reproductive healthcare, it's to make women secondary citizens again.

[–] Atelopus-zeteki@kbin.run 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Truly hoping it backfires on them.

[–] Cannibal_MoshpitV3@lemmy.world 17 points 7 months ago

It probably will. The last election cycle probably would have swung completely left if they hadnt tried to delay counting for so long. Not to mention all the voter fraud. Abortion stance will be the deciding factor this election.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Well that's not going to work. Anyone with eyes in Arizona knows the Democrats are winning.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

It's still a losing battle. Even when all the centrists move out, the center-right that remain is STILL going to be moving slightly leftward. Abortion will be back nationwide, but it's a question of how long and how many people have to grow old and die before it can be a thing.

Arizona already utilizes this often to bypass state Republicans refusing to do their jobs correctly.

So much so that they keep having their lawsuits to invalidate the measures that pass thrown out by the same Supreme Court making this decision.

It would be funny if it wasn't such a complete waste of time, taxpayer money, and manpower.

[–] bamboo@lemm.ee 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

There actually was an effort to get a ballot initiative on the 2022 state election, but due to narrow timing between the Supreme Court overturning RvW and the pre-established deadline, it didn’t make it. I would be surprised if a similar initiative isn’t on the 2024 ballot, and it would almost certainly pass.

[–] invertedspear@lemm.ee 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

As of April 2nd it has about 100k more signatures than it needed to make the ballot.

[–] bamboo@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Excellent, this may be the one thing worth voting for this November

[–] Branch_Ranch@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You...don't think there might be another important election in November?

[–] bamboo@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago

There are other elections but few with candidates worth voting for, some state level reps perhaps. This ballot initiative is morally unambiguous though.

[–] invertedspear@lemm.ee 20 points 7 months ago

It’s already got 100k more signatures than it needed to make the ballot. It will be voted on in November. Should probably still sign if you haven’t already in case the GOP shitheads start trying to challenge the signatures. Though that’s a lot of signatures they’d need to invalidate.

1864 thats how regressive these fucking republicans are.

[–] JimmyBigSausage@lemm.ee 22 points 7 months ago

Wild wild west. There is a ballot initiative that has enough signatures. Hopefully will help carry Arizona.

[–] LopensLeftArm@sh.itjust.works 19 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

Shitty court of a shithole state makes a shitty ruling. News at 11.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Lol, that's not Arizona. This is literally the only way the GOP could get abortion banned in Arizona. It's a lot more blue that anyone ever gives it credit for, even after voting for Biden, and electing Democrats to state wide offices for the last 6 years.

[–] TopRamenBinLaden@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

As someone who has lived there, the younger generations are starting to outnumber the boomers. Millenials and younger have always been majority leftist, its just that we have always had a large retiree community we had to battle against in the polls.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Yup, hopefully electing democrats to statewide offices stops the GOP retirement caucus from moving in.

[–] afraid_of_zombies@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Hey they were cool last major election

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 19 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Dodged that bullet. Got my daughters out weeks ahead of time.

[–] LifeOfChance@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I genuinely cant tell if this is an abortion joke or you actually moved them out of the state

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 5 points 7 months ago

Chances are 50-50. I'd call it multiple choice

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 9 points 7 months ago

The law makes abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison for anyone who performs or helps a woman obtain one. It includes an extremely narrow exception for “when it is necessary” to save a pregnant person’s life.
