He did such an awesome job, I wanted to post the video but I have no idea where to post it. It's not really politics or political leaders but it is. Every community that I went to, it seems like it would break a rule so happy to see someone shitposting it at least.

Interesting getting some downvotes with no comment pushbacks on the validity of their scientific process even with posting their methods. Is this just people upset that someone is challenging their beliefs that are being reinforced with the graphic but can't dispute any positives in their data collection process?

Commented above, it's actually worse for septic tank systems. Your sewage is collected by a business (with your particular address and name associated with billing) and processed at some of the same facilities the monitoring equipment would be setup at. You would have years of drug use stored as evidence (and the tank on your property for further evidence) and they would have a better case of probable cause to investigate your particular residence instead of a county/town wide report.

NP! it's a shit acronym to be honest lol. Someone must get off to it because it's used everywhere instead of actual titles and/or departments in the states.

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I wouldn't be too sure of that, could actually be worse for septic system users. I could easily see a system implemented where a septic tank truck has to be "inspected" when it goes to process the waste. If sensors tripped or flagged then they would sequester the employee and his logs which would lead them straight to your house or a few handful. Kinda like how junkyards require identification and address the metals came from in case an investigation needs to be launched about stolen goods.

so I'm not sure what you're replying too because the comment was deleted but I've always been fascinated by the instance-hating and what causes it. Like a particular mod, admin, or even community you've interacted with, I kinda get. But the broader instance thing is just.... interesting.

I don't know if piefed.social has a different kind of setup, but I'm not bombarded with a lot of what instance-haters report to have happening. I'm not getting personal messages or stickied posts on my feeds, it's basically the same all feed when I use any other instance just browsing without a login (I like to visit places like lemmy.today and their sick ass layout on tablet). My subscription feed would be the same regardless as well if I migrated. I found myself on .ml because years ago instances weren't as reliable with downtime or loaded slowly/error-ed but .ml was always responsive and up for me. The only reason I've stayed is because of people who hate .ml actually, like you don't look down on someone because of the neighborhood they live in do you? For those that automatically block an entire instance, I'm just kinda glad I don't have to deal with them in that sense.

I also might be missing part of your modlog if it's not showing for me but I only see 5 bans for "anti-ai troll" 2 months ago and 3 for "Pro-Zionist debate/apologia" 9 days ago. The 3 recent are easy to figure out because of the lengthy comments you had in the crazy ass post "Update: anarchist.nexus has been refederated" (I tried to stay away from that because it all looked heated at the time lol). The 2 months ago is easy to find if you manipulate your profile link with changing comment page numbers by 5's and just look at the dates. You commented on a post that was cross-posted to several of the lemmy.dbzer0.com communities saying anti-ai stuff and got banned several minutes after that. (I'm not a mod of these communities so not judging or stating whether the ban's were valid, just sharing why they probably happened).

I hope that anyone taking meaning or valuation from this data seriously looks into the methods and how fucked this whole survey process is (as you should with any data you're forming an opinion from). I'm kinda just sick and tired of crap like this being taken seriously as a true projection of a populace. I get that surveys are rough science, but the way it's disseminated through articles or comments is that it's gospel truth (pun intended).

What is the American Trends Panel (ATP)? (thank you @TragicNotCute@lemmy.world

Oversampling is used to study small groups, not bias poll results

Hilarious ass video showing their "science" - Methods 101: Random Sampling

I don't know why but the way this post was written made me read it in Tim Pool's voice. Guess I gotta lay off majority report videos for a while now. Glad to see push back and acknowledgement in the comments that this data is irrelevant. It's neat, but way too many factors and stretching of meanings which makes this a worthless analysis (with a very blatant bias in the reporting).

Had the same wtf thinking how this is going down globally. Like America's situation currently, totally get it. But, everyday it seems another government is pushing this regardless of the political spectrum that supposedly exists.

Really curious why I'm not seeing more articles about the individuals in legislation that are pushing this and what funding/lobbying they're receiving. There has to be multiple common threads because politicians aren't commonly "in the know" of current tech unless someones whispering a direction in their ear.

nah, you just have an abysmal reading comprehension and can't understand the original comment

What people are posting and linking isn’t “unproven”. They’re factual events that took place and their opinion on the matter which you seem to have a problem with both.

I'll go really slow for you.... the facts.... that people are speculating with.... have been shown with sources. Some opinions.... are that it looks suspicious.... and wouldn't be surprised.... if the administration performed a false flag.

Have a good one man, not worth continuing to communicate with someone that plenty of others have given up on.

T-4hrs from time of post

I've been browsing through the throng of generated sites and adware trying to find something that's simple and easy to track and manipulate. Honestly something as simple as the rimworld schedule would work (I've been tempted to boot it up but I can't add notations or change category fields).

Found some things that are similar but very crude and usually in a horrible format. I'm also weary of a lot wanting me to sign up for a "free" version or downloading sketchy software. I suppose there are excel versions but that's more manual entry and was looking for something with sliders I can control and expand to cover time slots. Something a couple of people will use and can easily change around to show their preference.

edit: some examples but not exactly what I'm looking for (looking for just a day, something less excel looking for ease of visual understanding) (the boxes are great but feel like the horizontal style is easier and being able to slide the boxes or make the sizes different)

I browse different lemmy instances usually because the feed is always different. Was blown away when I recently went to lemmy.today, no clue when they did the change but whoever is in charge of the design has my admiration! (chef's kiss)

Trying to max out a pc I inherited to give to another family member but having problems trying to confirm what memory I should purchase and trying to work my way through it but just need some clarifications or maybe I'm missing something. (trying to make this purchase and "finish" this pc to it's max capabilities before prices start to spike)

The pc in question is the HP 280 G3 Microtower. Originally I got the tag FX-ISL-4 off of the MoBo but couldn't find specs so with CPU-X it pulled up a HP 8350 (1) MoBo that I could get specs from (am I missing the 8350 on the board or is cpu-x style programs the only way to get the info?). H110 intel chipset LPC/eSPI controller.

Has an Intel Core i3-7100 (2) with integrated Intel Mesa HD Graphics 630.

Currently it's running 2 - 4GB ddr4-2400Mhz. This all started with trying to figure out the right CAS latency to get as a site listed different ones and I wanted to make sure the more-expensive/low-latency one would even be worth it or would be reduced and ineffective to get the better one. All of the sites also suggest a 32GB kit with 2 - 16GB ddr4-2400/2666/3200 (newegg, kingston, crucial) with the CAS Latency all over the place (I know it's a formula, gonna have to go back and refresh my mind on that I think).

When I ran into the Mobo datasheet (1) it states "Supports up to PC4-21300 (DDR4 2666), Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs" (making only 16gb total possible). The cpu (2) says ddr4 with "Rated Speed: 2400 MT/s" making all of the other ram recommendations overpowered.

I know from a previous Mac Book pro upgrade the manufacturer specified only 8gb but you could actually install 16gb with updates and changes. I can't find any documentation or articles but the memory sites are very adamant I can install 32GB worth on the HP and I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on that with the lowest CL I can find.

Any suggestions or steps I'm doing wrong? Really want to be confident with identifying my parts, understanding the specs and interactions, and being able to be confident that the parts are compatible. I have a bunch of others I've been staring at to work on similarly but I always hesitate, helps when it's not going to be your computer to actually do the thing.

For instance, a foot...is basically a foot length. So there's this foot-measuring waddle some people do walking literally heel-to-toe to get a general sense of the space. An inch is kinda a finger width, etc (they're all not perfect by any sense).

I've decided to just take the plunge and basically re-learn all my measurement systems because I'm seeing less and less of those being used. I started with just memorizing all the conversions but that's literally just adding another step. Everything I own basically has settings to switch or show both measurements (like tape measures) so I'm just going to stop using Fahrenheit and the United states "Customary System" all together.

Any tips or things you're taught or pick up on? There's a funny primary school poem for conversion of customary liquid measurements,

Land of Gallon

Introducing capacity measurement to learners can be challenging. To make this topic more accessible and memorable, we can integrate creative and interactive activities into our teaching approach. Using storytelling, we can transform the sometimes daunting task of learning measurement conversions into a whimsical tale.

  • In the Land of Gallon, there were four giant Queens.
  • Each Queen had a Prince and a Princess.
  • Each Prince and Princess had two children.
  • The two children were twins, and they were eight years old.

Once students are familiar with the story be sure they see the connection between the story characters and the customary units of capacity measurement. If necessary, label the story pieces with their corresponding units of measure: queen = quart, prince/princess = pint, children = cups, 8 years old = 8 fluid ounces. You can reduce the number of customary units in the story based on student readiness. link

tl;dr looking for anything to remember the hierarchy and memorizing the metric and Celsius measurement system, sometimes explained in schooling or local sayings. (if I had an example for those systems I would give one lol).

edit: as @drspod@lemmy.ml said, J. K. Rowling is a fascist. Don't purchase, the loser doesn't deserve your money.

I always forget we are creatures of habit till that moment hits. I have a relative who is a woodworker, but the reality is they just love collecting wood because they worked at a sawmill as a teenager and talking about wood was all his peers did. I also have a friend who wears the same cologne since childhood because a crush once complimented them on it.

I suppose always being the "good friend" (in their parents eyes) made me more sociable, so now I avoid "events" because I just feel like it's a game and I don't want my interactions with other people to feel that way (love small gatherings with a purpose though, the Amish got it right with the barn raising).

What are some that you've experienced personally or through someone close to you?

It just baffles my mind of how some of these places are ran by the mod teams. If it wasn't for the masses of people that still flock to them I would've given up a long time ago (now only check like once every two weeks), but by the evidence they (the users) just aren't getting the help they need.

Like 10 mods, and they don't auto-block "new" people from posting (the post had 103 comments when it was locked). Easy to tell this wasn't spam and it was a legitimate person looking for advice.

They suggest logging into your "main" account. As if people want to post identifying pictures of their house under an account which might have lots of references for identification. I just wish they knew how much easier it would be to make a lemmy account instead of jumping through Reddit's hoops, could have a very robust community of tradesmen on here that would attract more people looking for advice.

I've been back and forth with this just because of my habit to use "oh man", or "oh dude" in the past. I've done pretty well with changing the terminology just to keep to the discussion at hand and being respectful for anyone I'm talking to (just feels like basic public respect, like back in the day they would say "Dear Reader," not really a PC problem to me).

So anyways, I found myself typing "oh boy" the other day and I paused to wonder about it. I don't think I've ever seen it brought up in discussions like man or dude. I never even thought of that phrase as it signifying the recipient is a "boy". The more I think on it I don't even know what the actual meaning is besides the way in which it is used (like, "shit" or "you wouldn't believe").

tldr: Is "oh boy" an acceptable gender-neutral response loop hole so I can be lazier when typing or has this been discussed a lot and I've just missed out on it?

I would love to hear the perspectives of everyone and encourage you to voice your opinion (just message if you don't want other's chiming in if you prefer)
