Yeah. Revving up your engines for fun in a residential area should be a criminal offence.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 hours ago (3 children)

Completely agree.

But the main culprit by far is fast cars or vehicles with loud engines.

In 99% of places, urban, suburban they are the loudest noise.

again, he’s on a feeding tube

they are tubefed

My experience is a little better with comments sorted by “top” instead of “active”. “active” seems to promote controversial comments because they get the most replies.

They are literally bedridden and poor, they obviously don’t want to risk doing anything illegal because them getting arrested is literally a death sentence, and police are well known not to give a shit about chronic illness/disability.

perhaps someone will ship it over

This guy here is like heavily disabled on 8k per year disability benefits and are bedridden (can’t leave their bed), they wouldn’t be able to sue.

Sadly the person who posted this is a sorta-famous ME/CFS patient who is completely bedridden. So they can’t even leave their room.

Shows up on voyager. Some people just read the title/image and scroll down.

Yep, though the alternatives are not quite there yet software wise, but MBin and Piefed aren’t that far behind..

To be honest except on things like sports and politics, reddit kind of feels like a ghosttown too. So many posts with huge amounts of upvotes and like 2 bot generated comments. The power commenter types seem to have left after the exodus and been replaced by lots of people who scroll and like but don’t really venture much into comments.

I wonder if this helps explains why polling has been getting worse than usual since 2016. (In relation to presidential polling (midterm polling has been historically accurate).

I’m thinking maybe a ring or set of earrings. Budget is 50-100 USD. Shipping to Japan or EU, either works (we are in both in the near future).

How should I start? I’m so lost.

If it helps her style is halfway between elegant and hippy (witchy) and she gives off autumn vibes (wears dark greens and maroons a lot, paired with light skin, often wears turtlenecks and dark colours).

I just don’t have a clue what websites to look at, what is considered good or bad etc.

excellent shortish read. I recommend.

I found this answer on a reddit thread pertaining to the question and I thought it would be worth sharing.

“ Becoming disabled in my late 20s greatly accelerated my move towards radical leftism. As such I can speak to why ideologies like this appeal to disabled people, even if I can't go into the nitty-gritty details.

Disability is explicitly incompatible with the capitalist system. The way it's supposed to work is that you work for the means of survival, and then the meritocracy rewards those who work harder or in a more innovative way with luxuries and wealth. Those who refuse to work are left by the wayside; people who only do the bare minimum only recieve the bare minimum in return.

(This is bullshit, but that's how it's supposed to work)

The existence of disabled people is a massive problem for this system. What is society to do with people who are unable to work through no fault of their own? Leaving them (that is to say, us) to starve would clearly be barbaric, which is why only conservatives will countenance it, and even then they usually have enough shame not to say so directly.

The enlightened, progressive solution to this problem--the one that even those supposedly socialist European countries deploy--is to give disabled people the bare minimum they need to survive. Obviously we won't leave them out on the streets, but giving them enough money to go on holidays or buy nice things, or even to live independantly on their own, well that would be unfair! People are supposed to earn those things. From the meritocracy. The reality is that once you become disabled, the things that are supposed to make life under a capitalist system worth living are placed beyond your reach.

To a mind not warped by neoliberal capitalism, this is clearly absurd and cruel. The only reason why this attitude would ever be seen as reasonable is because we live in a system that enshrines ruthless competition between people as a positive good, and in which all things are provided to others for profit.

I currently live in a country that has a generous and accessible benefits system compared to the US and UK, and even then my disability payments would not be enough for me to live on by themselves. The only reason I can live comfortably in my current situation is because of other factors, which are mostly down to luck and privilege. Had I been born in a different situation or if random events outside my control had played out differently, I would be far worse off than I am now, with no way to improve my circumstances.

Again: this is the humane, progressive solution to the "problem" of disability.

Anarchism isn't the only ideology that pushes back against this--any anticapitalist worldview is addressing the root cause of oppression of the disabled--but I find the anarchist focus on grassroots mutual aid to be very positive. I am skeptical of the willingness of a communist state to treat disabled people better than capitalist governments currently do. Even if they did, I inherently dislike the idea that my quality of life and humanity are in the hands of a centralized authority with the power to discard them if it's deemed to be necessary. “

Thoughts on the Galaxy S23 (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone to c/android@lemmy.world

I’m switching from IOS to android and am looking to buy a new phone.

I really dont have time/energy to dig into it too much and i looked around and the s23 seemed quite good and affordable price wise.

I’m not doing too much fancy stuff just needs to be able to last (my iphone has been serving me for 7 years). Any thoughts?

Only thing that’s really necessary is the screen needs to have the ability to dim really dark (which seems to be a thing on the s23) because I have visual sensitivities and eye problems.

It made me so thankful for piracy. What an abysmal experience. First of all, I’m on mobile and they make you use the app. There is literally no way to get around it except TOR, no using browser, even on desktop mode, as somone like me who is deaf, it means I can’t have my special accessibility extensions which sucks.

So I get to the app ready to watch my show. Bam Adds! Worse than youtube! It’s like an add every 5-10min that lasts from 5-40s. Who the hell can actually enjoy a movie or a TV show in these conditions?

I was like fine, I’ll download it to watch offline then. Nope, that’s blocked now. So I figured I’d tinker with DNS and see if I could manage to block those adds. That didn’t work.

I’m so glad piracy exists. I see streming services have gone full circle. No better than paying an absurd amount for a TV channel plastered with adds. Urgh. I’ll make sure to stay away from disney restaurants now so they can’t legally kill me since I watched an episode of futurama on their platform.

I just want to note that Itaukei’s and indo-fijians are much more friendly than they are portrayed in this documentary. It tends to be the upper classes and especially the businesses and political class where there is a rivalry.

And as someone who lived here during military rule, it doesn’t feel like I imagine a police state does. It’s pretty much the same for most. Except the laws get passed by a different bunch of elites.

From Wikipedia

Stampede events that involve humans are extremely rare and are unlikely to be fatal.[5] According to Keith Still, professor of crowd science at Manchester Metropolitan University, "If you look at the analysis, I've not seen any instances of the cause of mass fatalities being a stampede. People don't die because they panic. They panic because they are dying".[5]

Paul Torrens, a professor at the Center for Geospatial Information Science at the University of Maryland, remarks that "the idea of the hysterical mass is a myth".[5] Incidents involving crowds are often reported by media as the results of panic.[16][17] However, the scientific literature has explained how panic is a myth which is used to mislead the attention of the public from the real causes of crowd incidents, such as a crowd crush.[18][19][20] […] [M]ost major crowd disasters can be prevented by simple crowd management strategies.[22] Crushes can be prevented by organization and traffic control, such as barriers. […] Such incidents are invariably the product of organisational failures.[4]
