It works better only because they intentionally hamstring the browser so you'll do exactly that.

Everyone wants to force you to download their app now so they can collect your data, shove notifications down your throat, and push ads.
In the age of the internet, your attention is the most valuable thing a business can have and it costs them virtually nothing to harass you into giving it to them because people have no spine and won't hold it against them.
I don't have a problem with ads, per se. I don't have a problem with billboards or magazine ads or little league team sponsorships. Hell, I run them myself at a local club.
What I have a problem with is the type of targeted advertising that depends on collecting data about my every click, location, and thought. The type of data that is used to profile me to such a degree that they know more about me than my closest confidants and even than I do about myself. It's just fucking insane. And it's just so wildly profitable that almost every piece of software is doing it.
Is there not a rigid criteria for this sort of thing?
I know what they meant.

Where are you seeing that there's no source code?
Whoa, there's an AI engine for Capone!?
Not everything needs to be mainstream to be great.
No one said it did
Mastodon currently comprises about 90% of Fediverse users so I'll have to disagree on that one.
I don't understand what one thing has to do with the other.
No one should voice their concerns with the direction of the instance? Everyone should just be silent because the community is run by volunteers?
