Just finished The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Her imagery is beautiful and you can feel her talent. It's a an autobiographical roman à clef of her struggling with bipolar disorder/depression. And the only book she wore before taking her life when the love of her life left her for another woman.

I was born cynical but him making a fuss has other motives but I'm not that clever. Is he trying to become a martyr? He spends thousands per moth, he can afford another set, no? He has hidden money everywhere.

Whoa! Interesting. Thank you for following through with the story. I saw your message below. Totally worth it. The book I'm currently reading mentions the Red Scare quite a bit, so reading this is even more spooky considering today's political climate.

It wouldn't have changed my stance. A follow-up message would've pressured me to let them down easy seeing they were still interested, but their silence felt indifferent.

I have a couple times. The last time was a couple years ago with someone I met online who I was getting to know but didn't like after the first date. They asked if I felt like watching some movie and I didn't respond and they didn't follow up. Tbh, I probably would've answered if they had sent a second text. I guess I avoided telling them the truth but it stuck with me like a pebble in my shoe and I feel bad thinking about it.

It's a button to say: "You're wrong, I don't care what you have to say, LA LA LA LA SHUT UP"

Idk, my downvotes mean "ugh".

Yes, usually, but I'm more frequently using the Read Aloud extension. It's the least effort that gets me there.

As a minority who is usually on your side: no, fuck off. This had a very real and tangible effect on the election. Trump had increased support from every minority group and that includes a good chunk of my extended family.

Wait, you're mocking "both sides" after saying that about Harris? I'm so confused.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Tbf, Trump's allies tend to be both. The Venn diagram is almost a circle. 😅

Being smug doesn't sting. Pay attention to what I'm criticizing, please.

I know you have your talking points and want to get to them but we're talking about something else here. I have nothing against veganism but I do have plenty to say about the stupid fan club.

Is it now? Aren't they dead by then?

I'm just saying, accusing people of enjoying torture is exactly the smug attitude I'm criticizing. You can take your better-than-thou attitude and shove it.

It's not the message, it's the delivery.

I sincerely don't know to what degree Trump and his crew may change the US, and by the looks of other countries, it could be as extreme as silencing the opposition by force. Are there any efforts to protect dissent? Can this be planned for and successfully fought back before it becomes a problem? Do you have a different view entirely?
