If you had to break it down by percentage, how important would you rate source, dac, amp, and headphones/IEMs, in creating the best sound possible? in c/headphones@hi-fi.community

For me the transducer will always my utmost priority. If my current dac/amp cannot drive it properly, then it becomes my second priority. I'm assuming the source is the type of file you play. If it is, as long as it meets 320 kbps mp3 or equivalent then it's fine since I really can't discern the difference of higher bitrate than that.

Yep I did more inclined towards neutral to harsh sounding earphones. My pair before this porta pro were Galaxy Buds+, Buds2, Moondrop Aria and a few chi-fi iems. Even back in 2020 I didn't find the KZ ZSN Pro X to be sharp at all, even though almost everyone complained about it harsh high and metallic timbre, especially the sibilance lol. It's not that the Porta Pro are bad, it does have a surprising amount of soundstage and imaging, just not what I'm used to

I do experience this as well. And not only that, even when I'm exhausted, really exhausted from work and get back home to relax and listen to my cans they're not what I used to hear. Less detail, more muddy and bass punch through my head enough to make it throb so I guess your overall condition does alter the perceived sound.

Quit impressive for your dog to hit all three lol. I'd tell you sugary liquid is a nightmare when it gets to electronic. Gunk and moisture still retains no matter how long you dry it.

On the hunt for past weeks. Finally got one offering a secondhand pair that's only been used for a few hours, basically new. The dark and muddy impressions are true but I've really fell for the design since first I saw it. Fortunately it responds very well to EQ. Now it's a favourite pair! My only regret is not getting the classic or anniversary colorway but doesn't matter.
