So my whole life I have been against buying beats, mainly down to the awful build quality, price and meh sound. However the Studio 3’s came on offer for £95 at Argos, and considering I never owned a pair, thought why not give them a go for that low price and might just be my new gym headphones.

Build quality is shocking…like I thought people were overreacting but no these things are built like £50 headphones. The ear cups are the cheapest “leather” you’ve ever felt, and the whole body is just creaky plastic.

Comfort wise they’re actually somewhat comfy because of the weight and the clamp force. The ear cups are very shallow though so my ears basically sit against the drivers. The ear cups are also quite small for an “over ear” headphone.

Sound…this is where I had no actual expectations because I’ve heard such mixed things. They sound absolutely great! If they retailed at £90. These do not sound like 200-300 headphones at all. My dad’s Soundcores sound better at half the price of these on sale. Obviously they are 6 years old, but my Sony mdr100abn’s I had years ago sounded far better than these at a much lower price.

End of the day, they are great for the price I paid, but go back 6 years and buy them for the retail price? I’d be fuming with the result

So I own a full Sonos surround system, and every day I watch anything or listen to music on it, it just sounds absolutely unreal. But had me wondering, does anyone reckon Sonos will tap into the Headphone market ever? Because I know for sure I’d snap them up ASAP!

So I've just seen interstellar for the first time, and it was in IMAX. So I got the ultimate experience. After the film the first thing that came to mind was being so excited to get home, put on my DT900 Pro X, and listen to the soundtrack with my eyes closed and appreciating all the details I missed in the film. I’m very jealous of people with full on studio set ups who get to listen to this With that equipment

See I would try them for gaming, but I NEED a mic, and the way my room is set up with my Xbox etc, I wouldn’t be able to actually use them with a mic. Plus having all of the volume controls on the headset as well as game EQ presets is what made me keep the maxwells. Music wise on the DT, they’re great, but the maxwells do sound better atm, but as I said that’s only because they’ve been properly EQ’d and the DT’s haven’t. And my head is quite narrow so the clamping force of the DT’s for me now is actually really nice

I’m not sure about the astros problem mate, I was just never gonna get them because they use the port on the Xbox that allows me to play 4k 120hz, so if I did have them, I couldn’t use them settings. But with the maxwell no there’s no static, interference or anything. And you can use it wired, but it has to be turned on. Which is kinda annoying but realistically with 80+ hours you’ll be charging them like 1-2 times a month

I’ve been really into headphones for many years, but only now have I really started to research into things properly. Had a set of open back Sennys when I was much younger, but were the cheapest of their lineup, and loved them. Then I moved onto Bluetooth headphones when I could afford them, mdr100abn, to the wh1000xm3, then the Bose 700, skullcandy crusher anc, and then sennheiser momentum 4. All these were an upgrade from the last, however, not a noticeable upgrade that justified the money difference. Gaming headsets as well, I went from a cheap pair of turtle beach, to razor kraken, to then the Arctis 9x. Again all of these were upgrades from the last, but not MAJORLY.

Eventually I started to look into brands that weren’t just average consumer brands (I know sennheisers arent just for average consumers, It’s just I’ve only experienced their standard audio products that aren’t “professional” grade). The two that I found out about were Beyerdynamic, and Audeze.

After weeks of research I finally came to the conclusion of 2 headphones I was going to buy.

The Audeze Maxwell for gaming and the Beyerdynamic DT900 Pro X for music.

Atm the Audeze does sound better for music, however I am waiting on the Qudelix 5K to get delivered so I can EQ the Beyers. Not to mention the Beyers have that beautiful open back soundstage I was missing from my first ever Sennheisers.

I can’t say much for the Beyers as not had them as long as the Audeze and haven’t EQ’d them properly, but if anyone is looking into and contemplating the Audeze, GET THEM!!!
