I will need my phone for banking software including bankid that we have in Sweden. I’ve read its painful to get that wirking without google services. But yeah, that was my first thought, get something de-googled. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Im betting no matter what you buy, tech-wise, its made in China. I just rather pay a european company than an american one.

After appx. 20 years in the apple eco-system I have decided to move on.

This will take time, i’m thinking 2-5 years.

My first order of business was a tablet. I couldn’t find a viable european tablet so went for a Samsung Tab S10 Ultra which has worked out great. It won me over from my pre-conception that android is somehow more budget, 2nd tier stuff. Its actually a very solid well-designed/built piece of kit in every way an equal to an iPad.

So i’m looking at Fairphone and Nothing right now for a new phone, i’m not in a hurry, I was supposed to upgrade my 14 Pro this autumn and i’m thinking that is still the time line.

Are there other european alternatives that I should be looking at?

Will air pods and apple watches still work in any sort of way with android? I will eventually replace them but both are still quite new.

Any advice from people who has already done this journey?

Pic ridiculous but related.

I watched NetworkChucks tutorial and just did what he did but on my Macbook. Any recent Macbook(M-series) will suffice. https://youtu.be/Wjrdr0NU4Sk?si=myYdtKnt_ks_Vdwo

A lot less since I started using docker instead of running separate vms for everything. Less systems to update is bliss.

If at some point you’re going to add more hardware it makes sense with a NAS. Otherwise just add USB I guess.

Well, no. You need to subscribe separately to streaming services. And yes, I was sceptical before I tried it. There is nothing else like it, if you want to take control over your digital music library Roon is the best way.

If you take the free trial you’ll see why there’s nothing else like it today. Its next level. Plex works fine too ofc. But its nowhere near as polished.

People will moan and groan because paid software and not opensource but there is nothing even close to Roon for doing this. https://roon.app/en/

With free esxi over, not shocking bit sad, I am now about to move away from a virtualisation platform i’ve used for a quarter of a century.

Never having really tried the alternatives, is there anything that looks and feels like esxi out there?

I don’t have anything exceptional I host, I don’t need production quality for myself but in all seriousness what we run at home end up at work at some point so there’s that aspect too.

Thanks for your input!
