It isn't legal to own hand grenades in the US so I would imagine the self defense part would be irrelevant.

Though I'd imagine it they might be allowed if they were legal because you can use, say, your car as a weapon in self defense...

Again I feel the need to preface this: I thought she was a decent pick. I was so confident I even told a friend I thought it'd be 60/40 in her favor months ago. I am NOT saying she sucks - I'm saying her campaign sucked. I'm also not saying that 0 people refused to vote for a woman - I'm saying it's not why she lost. Anyway,

Let's be real - we voted Biden in 2020 not because we thought he was the best person for the job but because we believed he could beat Trump.... Which he barely did. And then he went on to have a pretty good run and got a lot done! Anyone who paid attention could see that the progress was slow but there was still progress happening.

But his team sucked at communicating. They quietly did their thing and barely promoted it. Maybe because even if they did...the news would focus on something more controversial instead. Either way, most people had no idea..and many of those that did didn't feel like it was enough.

The fact that we're having this conversation tells me that we're both at least somewhat knowledgeable on politics so of course we knew about the good work he was doing...of course we know the policies Harris/Walz wanted....but did the layman know that? Nope.

So this election rolls around and people see Biden 2.0, why would they want that again when they're been struggling for the past 4 years? Why weren't they getting addressed then? Non-voters didn't feel heard. Hell, I didn't feel heard. Grocery gouging is old news and the fix feels like a consolation prize at this point.

By far the biggest failing is that their "leftwing" campaign chose to reach right. It garnered a few voters and alienated a LOT more.

I voted for her because I'm not an idiot but yeah...it was sadly an awful campaign.

I'll answer for 99% of Lemmy users: it's bad

Kamala Harris did not lose because she's not a white man and perpetuating that myth is not helping.

She lost because she didn't speak to the working class.

She didn't lay out any plans nor promise any relief to the millions of people struggling.

She said she wouldn't do anything different than Biden with Palestine.

She parading around a Republican and tried to draw in the non-existent middle voter.

She promised more of the same when "the same" already wasn't good enough.

Was she the better choice? Absolutely. Did she lose because she's not a white man? FUCK NO and parroting that bullshit excuse is just distracting from the issues that actually need fixing.

I've seen them before. But the slot is usually as wide as it is long and you use a square bit for it instead of a flathead

As someone who would have preferred Mastodon become the more popular service, I completely agree.

Look at mastodon.social and bluesky.app without logging in. Which site seems more interesting to the general public?

Now make an account. If you don't have a bunch of specific people you want to follow, which has the better new user experience for the general public?

Mastodon looks like it was made by nerds, for nerds, and is populated exclusively by nerds. It's not nearly as welcoming.

Tineye is way better for exact matches but worse for similar matches. If I have a cropped image, Google is better at finding the uncropped version

How will kids be able to look up to Mike Tyson after this??

What? It's totally normal to put your index and pinky finger on the outside of a mug handle. It's not uncomfortable at all!

I'm not sure if this counts as a "patient gamer" because I played them to death years ago...but I've been playing both again recently and they're just perfect little games with a ton of replayability. They're not retro (FTL 2012, ITB 2018) but they're old enough to regularly go on sale which is great!

Highly recommended if you like roguelite strategy games.

If you have any similar games to suggest, please leave a comment. I'm sure there's tons of great strategy games I've missed over the years

Yesterday I posted a picture of the tower I made while waiting for my friend to get back. Last night we worked together to extend the tower to new heights.

With the original tower, you could right click the top box and click Climb On to ascend. You can only reach about half way up on this one.

You exit the designated camp area about 20 boxes down from where I am in the screenshot and it's nearly impossible to climb back down. But that's ok because you're far enough away to Go To Camp.

10 down and you can no longer interact with the boxes at all. You have to left mouse click to "walk" onto them as if it was the ground.

This is the result of collecting pretty much every box pre-goblin camp minus 10-20 or so that broke in the process.

...siding with the rebels over Nere at the forge?

I'm doing a second playthrough and I just got to this part. It didn't make her hate me but I don't get why she'd be upset at all that I told the Absolute's precious little boy to fuck off.

How many people do you know who got interested in the game because of BG3? I imagine I'm not the only one.

I've always had a passing interest in it but my only friend who plays lives 8 hours away. I did a one shot campaign while visiting him years ago but I was totally overwhelmed. Now that I've played BG3 I'm thinking about finding a local game shop to meet some players..
