I actually kind of disagree, people forget those teams were dominant in run defense

Tbf that’s every non-Steelers NFL fan

I dunno why you’d even bother having this opinion if you’re new to the sport

How is he having a better season?

I don’t think Bland is gonna win DPOY tbh

[–] gyman122@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Rodgers and Brady were both outstanding in 2021. Nobody this season is gonna come close to those seasons

[–] gyman122@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

People saying this, as if DPOY isn’t by and large a defensive line award

[–] gyman122@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Interesting and irrelevant thing to say about a team that beat yours two games ago

[–] gyman122@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Yeah I guess we could just not talk about the season and the games upcoming until the season’s over if that’s what you’d prefer

Is it that crazy if Garrett conceivably gets 23, they have the best defense in at least a decade by most advanced stats, and the QB field at the end of the season is as bleak as it looks now? He’d definitely start getting votes, if only as a protest

[–] gyman122@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Playoffs don’t factor into the MVP, votes are submitted at the end of the regular season IIRC

The MVP field in 2012 and 2014 wasn’t nearly this bad

I mainly ask because, has there really been one?

Last year on the good end, the Giants were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league but started hot and eventually made the playoffs. The Seahawks similarly were mocked for attempting to remain competitive post-Russ trade, and also came out to look immediately better than they had. Jaguars (previous first overall pick) also looked good at the start of the season before a mid season lull and obvious eventual strong finish.

On the bad end, the Packers and Bucs both looked completely flat at the start of the season and the Rams, who had just won the Super Bowl, were absolutely dreadful.

Is there really a surprise this year at the midway point? I would have said the Bengals, but they seem to be getting back on track. I imagine most people wouldn’t expect that Cleveland would have been 4-3 after a very tough opening slate of games, but I think anyone being objective knew that team had talent. I really don’t know who my answer would be, it kinda feels like this season has gone “according to plan”
