Now I figured out by systematic trying how to make sure that Facebook actually shows the post with images, and not only the link. I tried it with pixelfed. It worked 2 times when I pasted the link into a new post in the web app of Facebook, but it did not work when I posted the same link from the android app. Weird, but manageable.:) Example where it works: https://www.facebook.com/774580511/posts/10175467680010512/

Regarding your "example': That's new to me, being a German. in this broad way the statement is wrong, i suppose. ChatGPT confirmed this. there is no law against denying the right of Israel to exist. It is only true that German politics has ever since Second World War felt a historical responsibility to support Israel against antisemitism.

Cool, keep me posted on your success and on your experiences / ideas for improvement of the concept!

My chosen, tender way to motivate non tech people to leave big Tech platforms for the fediverse is to post sth nice (nice pics, family info,...) on Friendica, Pixelfed or Lemmy, and then paste the link on Facebook, so that my Facebook friends see it, like what they see, get curious what's that strange platform they had never heard of, register.

Problem 1: Sometimes FB shows the linked posts picture, sometimes it doesn't. Problem 2: Some instances deactivate that content can be shown by external platforms like FB.

So far I did it three times; 1 (my friendica instance) didn't show the pic though. So far, the success count is still on 0. But I still hope it will work :)

Thank you for the hint on the article and your points regarding my question! Regarding Matrix : yeah, also other guys here pointed me at that. Good to know better now ; before I thought it was part of fediverse. now I know that fediverse is basically defined by some level of communication via ActivityPub.

Just checked with AI. You're right; I had a different understanding of tje word famous. English is not my mother language. Sry for the wrong statement then!

Thank you for your input. I was fearing right that; that for having the full functionality you need a native account for the respective service (in most cases). But it is not very problematic for me. I just didn't want to do a complete stupidity by opening five accounts instead of using just one. Thanks again!

Do you mean on another instance? Interesting idea. But why do I need to do it in advance? In case my instance suddenly disappears I can make a new account only then.. Or not?

So far I use: Matrix, Friendica, Lemmy, PieFed. I also follow 1 or 2 persons on Mastodon, using Friendica.

I want to try vutuv now. Maybe in the future some more services.

Now I wonder if I should really register a new account for each service. May I ask for your advice? What do you recommend?

well explained, thx for the info!

Sounds cool. Can you also mark all posts as read, perhaps filtered by what is currently displayed or by date? goal: hide all old stuff and only see the latest stuff in an inbox style. (i am using lemmy with Voyager atm; wondering how it is with piefed).

If I understand it right, the moderator of the mastodon.world instance has blocked several posts by Hasnain Kazim, as Kazim reported yesterday on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/661473263/posts/10163657720033264/

Kazim is a quite famous and successful book author in Germany and something between left, conservative and liberal. He was journalist for the most important German weekly news magazine Spiegel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasnain_Kazim?wprov=sfla1

Canceling his posts is stupid and certainly completely exaggerated. To me from the external perspective it seems that the moderator is abusing his power. He is damaging free and respectful discussion. Furthermore, when a famous person like Kazim reports those experiences to his broad audience, who do not understand the functioning of the fediverse, the moderator also damages Mastodon in general significantly, it seems to me.

What do you think about this case ?
