I am working on a new platform that allows import from facebook/instagram. This is a hard technical problem for the fediverse because you have to balance importing with not spamming everyone with those imports. It is an important feature though, and it's rather shocking that little to no fediverse platforms are utilizing the GDPR exports to their advantage.

I have seen them not posted by bots, as I have posted them on a Lemmy burner account. So this is somewhat personal for me.
The problem is that there is a current developing dogma around AI that, because the last example you gave exists, then it must be opposed in all cases. There is a lack of nuance. That is why there may be some "pro-ai" posts, to point out this nuance. The only reason they exist is due to the bias against it as a whole.
A gold plated statue is really on the nose for this con artist.
The only drama I am aware of recently was a piefed admin blocking some smaller anarchist instances, but it stirred up a shit storm and they reversed it. Not sure if that is the drama in question.
Who could have seen this coming?? Oh wait, anyone with a brain.
What part of what I said implies that I want bots to take the place of humans on social networks? What a very strange conclusion to jump to. I just think that AI has some useful applications.
People have different opinions on AI, not everyone is vehemently opposed, and some view it as useful if used on the appropriate configuration.
We really need an alternative to Lemmy and piefed for the threadiverse. I say this as a leftist. People are not children who need child locks put on their internet. This is not the type of environment I joined the fediverse to be a part of, that censors links just because the server admin disagrees with the politics.
What I am building is more of a Facebook competitor than an Instagram competitor. If all you need is an Instagram like platform, then pixelfed should be fine.
