It has a 3.5mm jack, aptx support and dolby atmos, but I've never touched the latter, why would I want some algorithm mucking with my audio?

If you hear some flaw and you can tell it's the DAC and not the amp or elsewhere, then that would have to be an absolutely shitty DAC
But headphones are supposed to be fun

Are you in the United States or outside? The US has a fairly strong culture of major stores allowing you to buy stuff and return it if you don't like it, that isn't as strong in other parts of the world.
