I have an ASUS Zenfone 8 and I love that even the latest version still has a 3.5mm out, but I just started poking around in the settings for my Samsung Galaxy tablet and realized that Samsung Galaxy devices get Dolby Atmos. (Movies have never been better!) It got me thinking, what phones do other auditorily-inclined people use? Does AptX/LDAC support matter to you? Does audio go into your purchasing decisions at all?

Samsung S23 'cause it was "free". Company phone!

iPhone 15 Pro with Apple dongle. Paired with my EW200s. Holy hell I love the combo.

iPhone SE, because I prefer iOS and it isn’t as expensive as the rest of their phones. That’s really it.

Sony Xperia 1 IV

I just like them

[–] noautoshed@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I use an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I use an apple dongle or my ibasso to power my sound.

xperia 1 v. i like the form factor, and i've been using the xperia since the xz2. the screen is great, has dual sim and memory card if i wanted. it has a headphone jack and ldac which is nice. pairs nice with my ecosystem at home, my car and at work.

I have a iPhone SE, but I don't use it to listen to music. I have a Fiio M11 Pro ESS for that.

[–] poaoas@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Use an iPhone XR. Pair it with a Qudelix 5k and my IEMs.

OP7 Pro + Fiio Q5S.

Surface duo 2 and use a bluetooth dongle or USB amp. The phone is not great by itself to power any headphones or IEMs but has great processing power.

iPhone 14. Because my iPhone 8 died and new phones are all the same cost. Also I’m knee deep in a 60GB Apple Music library and don’t have the energy to learn a new phone. Even with how scummy apple is.

Usb-c and being able to run my Qudelix 5K wired was one of the things that motivated me to upgrade to an iPhone 15.

Though really the iPhone’s AAC is perfectly fine too.

[–] IntoTheMirror@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I have an iPhone 12 Mini. I really cannot stand big phones. I have AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Max. I do have the AKG N400 for when I am prioritizing music on the go. Otherwise I use the Beyer DT1770 Pro, Beyer DT990, and AKG K240 DF to use at home.

I use both an LG V20 and an LG V60 on the network. The headphone jack on these is ridiculous and will run pretty much anything you plug into it. I've been hooked going on 7 years.

Previously I have used HTC devices for similar reasons.

Which phone I use for personal audio doesn't really matter to me. As long as it's got a reasonable amount of storage for local playback, good wifi and cellular reception for remote streaming, and a USB-C port, I'm good.

I use external DAC-AMP dongles the vast majority of the time now. My current favorite is a Fosi DS2, but I've got three others to fallback on: a Jcally JM6 Pro, an Apple, and an ancient LeEco.

15 Pro + Qudelix (AAC).
iphone's AAC is already good enough for me.

Samsung A52s. I've always had a phone with a memory card slot and headphone jack. Hoping it stays that way for the foreseeable future.

LG V40 thin q, for the built in DAC and I like the double touch lock feature. Also the always on screen with quick menu is nice. Not sure how they managed to keep those features to themselves.

Also not sure what I'm going to do when this phone dies as they are out of the phone came it seems. Sony xperia seems to be the alternative as I believe they have a DAC as well.

Pixel 7. Audio anything means nothing to me. It's a phone.

Xperia 1 ii and I use my old V30 as my DAC/AMP

[–] Grumpycatdoge999@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

iPhone XR. I don’t really listen to music outside of the house

[–] Equivalent_Half_808@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

iPhone 15 Pro. With the usb-c port it does not limitate me from connecting DAC’s and amplifiers via cable

[–] VonDinky@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Sony XZ1 Compact. It's a small android phone. I hate how there are no affordable small Android phones being made anymore.

[–] ReasonablePlankton@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Samsung A54 5G, with either my Samsung dongle or Fiio KA3 for audio.

LG V60, I like the large and good quality display, in-built ess dac and the dual screen case. The sound quality is pretty good so for casual listening, I don't need to carry a separate dongle DAC or Bluetooth DAC. I also have a dedicated DAP for when I'm serious about music while on the go so this works out well for me.
