I realized I had asked a stupid question after posting.
In Denmark it is required by law that you have a bare-minimum insurance (to cover if you damage someone or something else). Is this not required in your country?

Sounds like the least cynical answer I have gotten here.
I have never understood why you need to register ahead of time to vote in US. It seems like an unnecessary blocker. In Denmark you just show up on the day, state your SSN, show ID and get a ballot.
What are you going to snack on in a months time though?
