I was only ever there to follow a wide variety of parody star trek accounts which were hilarious and thought provoking.

They're all gone, now that musk is doing his thing. Twitter was cancer, now it's terminal bullshit and I've deleted it long ago

If they start doing that, and only that, no police officer will ever see a pension ever again within a month

Start giving police officers actual training. You know, teach them how to deescalate, how to actually use a gun (because they don't even know that part) but also teach them to let go.

High speed chases may look cool but they endanger the innocent until found guilty suspect and hundreds of innocent bastards, none of those chases are worth it. Let them go, catch them later safely using actual police investigation work.

Guns may look cool but they kill at a distance and are a high risk for all bystanders, they should be a last resort, not a first resort.

Also, mgive police officers a mandatory psychological evaluation, filter out the psychopaths and the racists. Those you don't want in a force that needs to protect and serve.

A lot more improvements can be and should be made, but you get the picture

This obviously has in part to do with the toxic American gun culture and it's corrupt and untrained police, but alsonwoth it's misguided need for what it thinks is justice, and revenge for real or imagined crimes.

Shoplift something small? In you go with hardened criminals to punish punish punish, fuck you for daring to do that! No rehabilitation, just punish

A lot of Americans complain about low prison sentences in Europe, not understanding that the focus there is on actually solving the problem of crime, instead of revenge, revenge, revenge.

From reading the story it sounds like the guy wasn't trying to kill the teen, he's just a giant irresponsible dumbass who should never had a gun in the first place, making all of them victims of the toxic US gun culture

Putin bought and paid shills say what?

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Putin doesn't give a shit about personnel losses but Russia very much does, even if it doesn't know it yet. So many young men have been erased from the economy, either by them fleeing the country or being killed, it will affect Russian economy negatively for decades

So this has shit to do with Linux, it's Oracle doing Oracle. Great, you pay through the nose, get abused and for that you get shitty software that allows hackers to take over your machine. All sorts of awesome

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago

Nah, they'll use something else instead.

We're at the point that geo engineering is a must for our survival, thanks to politicians not caring and businesses caring only about their execs and share holders.

Having said that, if geo engineering is successful, it will be abused immediately to just continue polluting. Calling it now that politicians will spin this as a great thing, totally not so that their rich donors can continue to abuse the planet.

Also, in the beginning it won't be successful. It will fail as politicians won't allow the required investments and push for shortcuts and buddy buddy kickbacks from friendly companies,, overriding scienctists and engineers in the process. That will destroy loads of lives and even more of the environment. That will become a scandal, them the politicians will do a mea culpa, and continue the same shit on a lower level whilst everyone ignores that large corporations yet again fucked over the world for profit.

Engineers and scientists will then pick up from there and manage to do the impossible and little bu little, progress will be made. Loads of profits will be made too, that's always the main goal, but humanity still might be salvageable

So how about we petition to require rainbows everywhere? Apparently you only need 10% of votes
