Seiko Sumo. I kept thinking it’d be cool to have a 44mm watch as a skinnier guy. I saved up for months to buy it. After a few wears, I decided it was way too big and went back to 38-40mm watches. Now it just sits in my watch case

I’ve gotten my SKX009 serviced once. Never got the SNZF17 serviced. Both still running perfect.

As some have said, almost any watch can be a “lifetime watch”.

I have a couple $200 Seikos that are 20 years old which I’ve worn the heck out of. Still ticking away. Still wear them today, even after getting into “luxury” watches.

Get it from a reputable brand, get something you like the look of, and wear it lots.

She does leave her diamonds and luxury items behind when we travel to her home country several times a year. It’s insured, but I’d rather not go through that whole dance.

Also.. this gives me an excuse for a new watch 😁

Wow I have a lot of reading to do. Thanks for this! The Traska is definitely near the top of the list now

Doesn’t have to be new, but looking for a GMT function

I have an SPB143, but I’m on the hunt for a GMT. Obviously because it’s too hard to look at my phone to get the time back home 😁

“Happy wife, happy life”, or something like that

In all seriousness, she’s from Latin America, so we do go down there multiple times a year. She’s seen it all — people getting mugged over any luxury item. She doesn’t bring her designer purses and even switches her wallet whenever we go visit. And as a visible foreigner to their country, I already stick out like a sore thumb to begin with.

So paranoia? Maybe. Can’t blame her. She knows her country better than me.

But hey, this gives me a reason to get another watch!

I would get this in a heartbeat if it were a tad smaller all around!

The longines is up there for me. The BB pro is way too thick for my taste

After much paranoid nagging from the wife telling me not to wear my Batman on our travels, I’ve been in the market for an affordable alternative with similar dimensions at 40mm x 12mm.

Preferably automatic, steel bracelet and erring more to the sporty side. Preferably something that will make the “I told you so” sting a bit less if it does get lost or stolen.

I’m a Seiko and GS fanboy, but their sizing is just too wacky for my wrist and taste. The SSK is a bit too CHONK, and the GS SBGM247 is even more THICCCC at friggin 14.4mm

The only options I’ve been able to find so far are in the microbrand world.

Christopher Ward C63 GMT - 39mm x 11.85mm Zelos Spearfish GMT - 40mm x 13mm

They both use the same new Sellita movement, so I assume that’s how they’re able to pull this sizing off.

I’ve got my eye on the CW. Not that I have much of a choice anyway since Zelos always sells out their drops in like 10 seconds.

Any other recommendations?

Cheers!
