Wait, so Google just moved around important users' files on their devices without being asked to do so. And now they decided to just delete those files together with the feature? This sounds pretty crazy, even for Google.

This is truly great news! I recently migrated my email and calendar from Google to Proton but decided that Drive is useless for me without photo backup on mobile. Linux client with sync is also extremely important but AFAIK Proton Drive is supported by Celeste so this might be a viable workaround (though I didn't test it yet).
I also want to point out that during the short period of time when I'm using Proton Mail and Calendar, they already received a few new features. If they can keep up with this pace of development then I'm honestly fine with paying for incomplete services just to support them.
I really hope Proton will become a one stop shop for secure online services. Fingers crossed!
Good job Cosmic team!
I really hope Cosmic can be the first DE to close the gap between tilling window managers and DEs we have today. Very excited for it!
I'm not sure about the exact percentage but I don't think it's necessarily that far off. I spend a lot of time reviewing code, designing, documenting, reading documentation. Actually writing code is a cherry on top.
leap forwards in tech
It's a shitty smartphone without a screen.
I'm in the exact same boat. I would really like to use Vivaldi. I'm a sucker for feature rich applications (that a lot of people would call bloated). But I think that giving Google more power by using Chromium is just wrong. And I'm not even the paranoid type, I still use some Google services.
I see. For me it's mostly programming stuff. As long as the issue in question isn't very obscure then DuckDuckGo is doing fine. However, if it's mentioned in a single 5 year old GitHub issue then Google is pretty much the only chance to find it in my experience.
I'm seeing comments like this all the time and I'm always baffled. I'm using DuckDuckGo as a main search engine but I have to fall back to Google quite often because DuckDuckGo is just worse for me. And any other search engine I tried was even worse that that. It's true that Google results don't feel as accurate as they used to, but I genuinely haven't found better alternatives. What do you recommend?
I see that Framework and System76 were already mentioned. I would add Slimbook and Tuxedo Computers to the list.
I was just in a market for a Linux laptop and I really wanted a Framework but it's not available in my country so I settled on Slimbook Executive 14 instead. I have it for around a month now and I'm very satisfied.
Is your dock powered by your laptop? I didn't even know this was possible, all docks I've seen have their own power supply and actually offer PD to the connected device, not the other way around.
Yeah, there are reasons to criticize snaps but the fact that it takes a lot of space in some UI is not really one of them.
Yeah, so basically Google invented a feature that finds your important files and deletes them. The future is here!
Of course I'm exaggerating for humoristic effect but in all seriousness I think the whole action is extremely poorly executed. I would be surprised if there weren't some cases of people actually losing something important because of this.
