Paper straws do suck though.

I'm in Toronto, and I believe the city has banned plastic straws. I think plastic straw bans tend to be harmfully distracting from the larger issues. (To be clear, I think we have a massive plastic pollution problem.)

I was in a Hawaiian cocktail bar in Toronto recently, where the drinks are made to be drunk with straws and half of the people at the table asked for a second straw halfway through their drinks as the paper straws had stopped working well

We should be selling and marketing bring-your-own reusable plastic straws, with a small washable traveling case and a cleaning brush, maybe 4-packs

How disappointing and shameful. It'd be nice to see our country on the right side of history

When I think of Tim Hortons, I think of how I've seen the disappearance of reusable flatware and cutlery from such a large proportion of eating establishments, and the normalization of eating-in with exclusively single-use disposable stuff (usually plastic), in about two decades. Future generations will thank us /s. But it's those effing 'woke lids' that are the real problem /s. Also, who cares about Tim Hortons if you don't like it; it's not even Canadian. Do conservative voters just need a daily dose of misplaced resentment and rage to keep them going?

An "an anonymous source says" article (i.e., deliberate leak to the press; standard sports industry practice). Toronto, the WNBA's 14th franchise, is expected to start play May 2026 and play at Coca-Cola Coliseum, an 8,000-seat arena at Toronto's CNE grounds which is home to the Marlies and where Toronto's Professional Women's Hockey League franchise is currently playing its first playoff series. An official announcement is expected May 23rd

Sad, shameful. The Woodland Cree First Nation deserve better

First off: @#$% off, Ford. Second, this continues a trend we've seen most prominently under the clown show that is Danielle Smith's UCP in Alberta: Provincial governments wanting to dictate municipal affairs according to their own political agenda, which I don't think is healthy for Canadian cities

You make some good points. I wonder if their testimony for ICJ or a similar body would be as protected as if it was for Canadian legal proceedings. Regarding termination, fabrication of 'patient safety' concerns can be used to disguise motivations and minimize due process when there's a desire to fire someone. Sorry if I sound wildly pessimistic. It's the most 1984 thing I've experienced personally, and I've got to put up with it for several more years before I'll be empowered to stop hiding as much

Important article. I liked the breakdown the principles and the examples of violations by the UCP

Such deep anti-racism is heartwarming and cool

amazon also purchased a huge stake in NBA (men's basketball) TV rights for the next decade last week. Becoming players in the pro sports market seems like a key step in streaming services becoming the new cable (eg, you pay and there are ads)
