It did take some effort to separate the media hype from the real breakthroughs. At the time I was doing it, there were some real breakthroughs in medical, energy, etc, that were obvious breakthroughs- often they would be featured on places like Quanta Magazine as a video: https://www.youtube.com/@QuantaScienceChannel

I used to curate science breakthroughs using a variety of rss feeds. This was different than just posting new science news, I looked for the real breakthroughs. However I don't have the time or energy or tools to manage a community like this today, but I would subscribe and contribute occasionally to one...maybe someone else out there wants to start one?

Yes, It sounds like https://piefed.social/c/fedigrow@lemmy.zip has offered to include this in their community. As a side note, it could be worth encouraging "new community suggestions" beyond within communities, perhaps.

Here is something I find myself wishing for in Piefed:
A "suggest a community" option - because not everyone has the time or energy to start and manage their own, maybe if it gets a certain vote and someone volunteers as moderator it gets created.

I hope ideas for FOSS is okay to post here. Here are my ideas:

  1. reverse image search, upload an image, find a matching image online.
  2. a broken link checker/scanner with email notifications.
  3. a domain name helper that uses combines two words using synonyms.
  4. a link saver like pocket but simpler (mobile version)
  5. a pixabay alternative that doesn't allow AI or let it train AI
  6. A job listing website that is Anti-AI (No AI jobs)

What are some ideas you have?
I would prefer they were not vibe coded since I don't support AI.
