I personally like collecting inexpensive watches. The most I've ever paid for a watch was I think $350. I like having a variety of styles and a bunch of different fun diver watches. That's not for everyone. I probably would buy a more expensive luxury watch like a Rolex GMT Master Ii Pepsi, but only if I could get it at retail.
