Letter.

A new Harvard survey found that 41% of Amazon employees get their schedule less than two weeks ahead of when they are scheduled to work, a practice known as “just-in-time” scheduling. For many employees — especially for those with responsibilities outside of their Amazon job, like caregiving, education, or additional jobs — just-in-time arrangements are unworkable.

(...)

Just-in-time scheduling could have other consequences beyond leaving workers with little control over their own schedules and lives. The practice could mean that workers aren’t given enough hours, forcing them to become part-time workers with virtually no notice or ability to budget accordingly. Workers in the warehousing and transportation sectors are particularly likely to report high rates of anxiety, stress, and lack of control over their jobs as compared to other sectors — on top of elevated risk of injury and illness. And Amazon’s use of just-in-time scheduling could be indicative of other unfair scheduling practices, like “on-call” requirements — which force workers to remain available for shifts that may or may not come to be — or refusal to reschedule workers.

Patrona concludes “that authoritarian victimhood rhetoric is far from innocuous. It is much more than simple packaging, form devoid of content; rather, it both anticipates and puts to work anti-democratic, coercive, and illiberal governance and policies, once authoritarian populists are granted executive power post-electorally.”

Then im forced to use windows at work and get locked into a 45 minute forced update.

Not to mention how horribly slow win11 is even on 64 gb ram and an i7.

And the bloatware. Never seen so much bloat (and ai slop shit) ever before. And start menu ads. Yay.

How do people use this trash!

According to the Telegram channel Baza, the man had worked as a systems engineer at an IT company affiliated with Russia’s Skolkovo Innovation Center. He resigned in June, sending his goodbye email to 513 coworkers.

In the message, he stated that he had opposed the Russian government since 2016 and condemned the war in Ukraine. He explained his decision to move to France as a protest against the war, writing that he preferred his taxes go to NATO rather than support Russia’s invasion. He also wished for the death of a coworker who had signed a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry.

Company employees reported the email to the police. Authorities later stated that a legal review found the message contained “incitement to hatred and hostility.”

According to Baza, the man was fined in absentia. His social media reportedly indicates that he is already in France.

The statement reads: “The RTVE Board of Directors agreed during its meeting on this Tuesday, September 16, that Spain will withdraw from the Eurovision Festival if Israel is part of the event. The measure was taken at the proposal of the RTVE president, José Pablo López, with an absolute majority of the Corporation's governing body.”

Previously the Spanish minister of culture had pushed for the country to be banned. This marks the next step with the broadcaster confirming their resolve to leave the contest, should Israel compete.

I like that Sibarist is out there setting the high bar for coffee filters. Ive played with their filters and quite like them, but for 98% of brewing the price point just isnt justied Imo. I'd argue they are undisputed leaders in high end filters.

I feel like they are just getting pretentious though with this new Halo brewer

https://sibarist.coffee/products/brewing-set

A glass jar "inspired by minimalism" should not have a very maximal base model price of $374(sale price!)

I love learning about and trying new brewing techniques, but this one is out of my league and while it's mean-spirited, I'm kind of booing this one and hoping it bombs. I do already love that they refer to it as the "BS" for short.

I'm surprised I can't find any videos or pre release reviews at all on this thing. Anyone here know anything? I'm morbidly curious.

Robert Redford, the Hollywood golden boy who became an Oscar-winning director, liberal activist and godfather for independent cinema under the name of one of his best-loved characters, died Tuesday at 89.

Redford died “at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved,” publicist Cindi Berger said in a statement. No cause of death was provided.
