No, that's not a typo, they really have the exact same number of yards

The Commodore64 is taking the week off so I had the Tandy1000 do the intel gathering and it spit out the following tidbits that may be of interest...

NFC

  • Scenarios in which 6 wins somehow made the playoffs were found for ATL, CAR, TBB, CHI, GBP, MIN, NYG, WAS, LAR, and ARI. Now I personally wouldn't as a head coach aim for that mark and call it good, but it is mathematically possible. T1000 said NOS and SEA had to hit 7W at a minimum. Usual caveat there could be some lottery ticket that eluded it in its scenario searching.
  • DET, PHI, DAL, SFF could in theory be coached by Arthur Smith (i.e. not win any games) for the rest of the season and still make it in.
  • T1000 said if ATL and TBB hit 11 wins they would be assured of a playoff spot. I believe if either hit 11 wins (i.e. win out) they would by default be the NFC South champion). It said NOS, DET, MIN, DAL, PHI, SFF, SEA would need 12 wins to avoid any wackadoodle scenario that leaves them out.
  • CAR, CHI, GBP, NYG, WAS, LAR, and ARI do not control their own destiny.
  • Projected number of wins most likely to be good for a wildcard spot is hovering between 9 and 10, with 9 having decent odds of at least a tiebreaker situation.
  • Projected number of wins likely to be needed to win each division (i.e. 2nd place + 1W): East 11, North 10-11, South 9, West 10. The East number seems low to me but I ain't going to risk the T1000 going on strike over an argument.
  • Computer didn't see any division or playoff clinching scenarios for week 12 nor any that would eliminate a team from playoff contention. The Panthers live to fight another week. I think the Eagles could possibly clinch a playoff spot by next week.
  • In my subjective world of what is realistic, I have PHI and DET as IN for they could drunken stumble to 10 wins which "should" be safe and CAR, ARI, NYG, CHI, WAS as OUT as it would be either impossible or unlikely given their current state of football playing ability for them to hit 9 wins which is probably what would be needed to have much real-world chances.

AFC

  • Scenarios in which 7 wins could make it into the playoffs were found for CIN, BUF, NEP, NYJ, LVR, LAC, TEN, and IND. Indications are that CLE, PIT, MIA, DEN, KCC, and HOU would need to hit 8 wins for any chance. BAL and JAC are at their minimums already.
  • 12 wins was spit out as the number that assures a playoff spot for BAL, CIN, CLE, BUF, MIA, DEN, KCC, IND, JAC, and HOU. T1000 said PIT needed 13, same caveat it might have missed something for PIT and 12.
  • NEP, NYJ, LVR, LAC, and TEN do not control their own destiny.
  • Projected number of wins most likely to be good for a wildcard spot is sitting at 10.
  • Projected number of wins likely to be needed to win each division (i.e. 2nd place + 1W): East 10, North 11-12, South 10-11, West 10-11.
  • There do not appear to be any division or playoff clinching scenarios for week 12 nor any that would eliminate a team from contention.
  • In my subjective world of what is realistic, I don't have any teams that I would put money down as being IN that could limp without an offensive line to 11 wins and be safe, but I have four that are realistically OUT as getting to 10 wins would either be impossible or quite the feat, NEP, TEN, LAC, and NYJ.

You can't blame everything on dropped balls and lackadaisical wide receivers. Is it the offensive scheme and losing Bienemy as OC? Mahomes' numbers are way down too this season, it's like they don't push the ball downfield like they used to do, the game against the Eagles is a microcosm of their entire season, they come out looking like the Chiefs of old and then just lose focus or playcalling becomes extremely conservative?

Not even in the pre-Super Bowl era did the Steelers axe a coach midseason

However bad you thought Canada was, he was worse

it feels like every time they use this, no matter how obvious it is or how many defensive players rush the line, they get 2-3 yards. it seems to me like they could go for 2 and get every time, which could be a huge advantage in the long run of certain games. my brother asked this question last night during the xp after the qb sneak td and neither me or my dad had an answer because it seems like it would work 100%. is there a reason they don’t do this?

PFF dropped this article a few days ago and I thought it might be interessting to discuss those candidates (and our own darkhorse candidates).

Also I would like to feel the temperature from different fan bases on who might be looking for a new GM in 2024 (Raiders? Patriots? Panthers?)

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2024-general-manager-candidates-rising-stars-analytics-talent-evaluation

P.S I know this article is behind a paywall (and archive.ph doesn't work on this one), still thought it would make for an interesssting discussion.

On a per game basis Miami leads with 2.2, Bills and Vikings have 2.0 passing TDs per game.

Cleveland has 0.8 per game, the Steelers 0.7, and the Jets have 0.6 passing TDs per game.

This man is an inspiration. This isn’t a shit post. I’ve struggled with alopecia my entire life. I went completely bald in 5th grade, and it took a huge tole on my self confidence.

I went from being friends with everybody, and having a ton of friends, to being ostracized because I looked weird. The impact alopecia has on people’s lives is incredibly understated. I have an extremely loving family, but even they tell me “oh it was just a hair thing. nobody really cares.”

But the reality is, it did matter. I immediately noticed a difference in the way I was treated when it first happened. I was an amazing baseball player, but completely lost confidence when people would stare at my head in the dugout instead of my eyes. I would hit a double, and score, and have to hi five my teammates as they stared at my head.

Of course they meant no harm, but they had never seen a bald kid. They thought I had cancer or some shit. I went into middle school wearing a beanie every day. I saw the characters in South Park and thought “oh people will see it as normal in time.” Nope. All of the girls I liked, didn’t like me back. I had no hope for romance, despite being a good looking person despite alopecia.

I was always great at sports. I loved it more than anything. But ill never forget my warmup in highschool football, where we were supposed to have a show of intimidation. We were all supposed to take our helmets off at the same time, and I was the only person that didn’t. I was a dominant DE, but couldn’t do it. Shoutout my coach for talking to me after and understanding, but fuck. I wish I could have just played the game I loved.

But anyway, Josh Dobbs is a fucking beast. For all of us alopecia brothers, to see a guy dominant in life, as a rocket scientist and an NFL QB, we needed it. Thank you dobbs for the inspiration. Much love ❤️ 💯

I know he isn’t the first. Shoutout Ryan Shazier. But to dominate in all aspects of life, fuck yeah man. I Love Josh Dobbs.

Looking at the post-Brady Patriots, we know about 2020 and the Cam experiment gone awry yet they still salvaged a respectable 7-9 with good wins over the Raiders/Cardinals/Ravens (all .500 or better)

Last year had the Patricia/Judge offensive disaster, and we're seeing how things are playing out this year.

But in between, the 2021 team was flirting with the AFC #1 seed. The team started 2-4 but 3 of those games were winnable (OT vs Dallas, a redzone fumble vs MIA, Brady vs Belichick where Mac played well but a doinked FG did them in)

Then came a 7 game win streak including impressive wins vs the Chargers, Browns, Titans. The latter games saw Mac Jones thrown 3 TD's twice and the CLE game featured Jakobi Meyers finally catching a TD pass (he had previously thrown 2 TD's and caught 2 2PC's)

The peak for those Pats was that famous MNF wind game at Buffalo where Mac Jones didn't throw a lot but they got a long TD run and clutch late goal line stand got them to 9-4.

At that point, they were also the AFC #1 seed and there was talk of a possible TB/NE Brady vs Belichick SB.

But after that, it all went downhill.

Even off a bye and with a 2 game lead in the AFCE, they got dominated on a Saturday night in Indy by Jonathan Taylor- I mean the Colts- and then lost the Buffalo rematch where Josh Allen went Super Saiyan. Mac Jones also went from the OROY favorite to losing the award when those losses coincided with Ja'Marr Chase going bonkers vs KC/BAL

Then, in a playoff rematch in arctic cold weather that seemingly favored the Pats, Josh Allen went Ultimate Super Saiyan in the famous 'every drive was a TD except for kneeldowns at the end of each half' game.

Since that MNF Wind Game, New England is 11-21.

How did NE go from looking like they had their guy post-Brady to Mac basically being on the outs?

Was it REALLY as simple as McDaniels leaving? Or is there more to it?

Like Mac going from Brady heir apparent to barely better than Zach Wilson is something none of us would have guessed as recently as 2 years ago at this time.

It seems to be the new standard to sign a FA to the practice squad before inevitably elevating them to the 53 man roster. This smells like they are taking advantage of some rule change. Does anyone know if there is an advantage to signing a FA to the PS instead of just cutting and replacing a player on the 53 man roster?

Like if someone says a team got 10 wins this year, my mind always thinks of 10-6. But then I remember that it’s 17 games and that it’s 10-7. For me, it’s either in my head like they went 10-6 or 9-7 and they’re just in the middle. I hate the fact they added an extra game it makes no sense to me.
