Now that you pointed it out, this annoys me more than people who put the currency sign after the amount.

[–] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Listen do you say Dollars 300 ($300) or do you say 300 Dollars (300$)?

I rest my case lol

[–] forkDestroyer@infosec.pub 4 points 5 hours ago

I'll give you my on this: I like the dollar sign before the number. When I say "3 dollars" I see it as "$3" not "3$" and I don't see it as "dollars 3" unless I'm telling a riddle.

Just like with American date structure: I'll say July 26, 2026 and will see it as 07/26/2026.

(But when I put a date in files I go for YYYY/MM/DD format)

(Whoever created these systems had a funny sense of synergy lol)

Welcome to Europa were we do exactly that, as the placement of the currency symbol is a locale thing not a universal.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Sure, but that doesn't stop the localities that put it after from being totally wrong and stupid.

but you say "its 15 US Dollar", and not "its US Dollar 15"? Same with any other unit (which a currency is) "x m, y seconds, z newton"

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 12 points 10 hours ago

To me putting it first feels funny. Euro 100, instead of 100 euros. While writing it you need to remember to put the symbol before writing the amount. Funny thing

I dont know why that annoys me. It does annoy me but it shouldn't because at least it has a logic to it.

£2 Is spoken "two pounds" not "pound two"

[–] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Is because with it being before, you get to know that the number is for a currency immediately, instead of finding out it's a currency afterwards

Yes, I too deal with amounts of money large enough that I can't see the end when I start reading it!

You bought some RAM recently?

[–] SharkWeek@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 6 hours ago

Tried to ... it turned out cheaper to just pay someone to strip it out of flock cameras instead
