Just tell her its a misunderstanding and that she can't have the seat, sorry? Most probably the question was phrased as intentionally misleading, but you don't know for sure. Don't have a bad conscience but don't be mean either.
The part that makes it funny is the character commits to the obvious communication error.
It's a joke in a comic. You don't need to take super seriously and literally and find a solution. Just laugh and move on.
As somebody who is also autistic, I feel like sometimes you do have to take it super seriously because this kind of stuff happens a lot. The important part is to maybe to delete most of the post once you've thought it through, prior to hitting post.
You might not be able to tell I do this given my post quality, but damn do most my writing for posts not make it to the reply button.
No, we must solve this issue. You need to understand that nobody here understands the difference between fiction and reality.
the difference between fiction and reality is that fiction needs to be believable
Congratulations. You've successfully failed the test.
If you eat enough pills/chems/things there is no difference.
Yeah but what's done is already done!
It's not like someone can just draw a time machine in the next panel so that he can go back and blurt something like "Tell her you have bad knees!" before the future version pops out of existence, leaving a confused past version wondering "Who? When?" Followed by a new arc where he doesn't go to the bar because he thinks he needs to do something more important, wanders around looking for the woman he needs to inform about his bad knees (which aren't even really that bad).
All to set up a scenario where an exhausted man sits down on a bench and is approached by another woman who flirtily asks him if he's a bad boy and he absently replies that his knees are bad, she laughs and they fall in love.
And every now and then he thinks about that alternate reality where he somehow determined that "Tell her you have bad knees!" was enough to not only win his true love's heart but also somehow led him to her. Though he loves his life with her, he obsesses with finding ways to unlock that advanced intellect in this timeline.
It's not like you could just draw that, the past is in the past, worry about the present!
I read "final solution" for some reason.
I and I was quite interested in where it was going.
Apparently just laugh and move on.
Doesn't seem right.
Yeah. But then it wouldn't be funny..
It is not?
Seems like you're in the minority on that one.
The humour is derived from there being an obvious remedy that he didn't take, so the violation of expectations is surprising and hence, humorous.
Yeah this is weak and old joke. Sad that you getting downvoted
I think you don't know what that punctuation means?
You get a point for pointing out a punctuation error.
.
It might be a surprise to you, but the post is a joke.
Where is the funny?
Normally when someone asks βwould you like to danceβ itβs an invitation to dance with that person. In the comic, the lady did not invite the little guy to dance with her, as he and the reader expected.
People often find subversion of expectations like that to be funny.
Your inability to find humor in something does not mean that there is no humor.
The issue isn't the comic, it's you.
Yeah, I guess I'm a weirdo if I don't find the theme "misleading people for my own benefit" to be funny either.
That isn't the part that's supposed to be funny, though. The joke is fundamentally about the linguistic ambiguity of "would you like to dance" typically implying "with me". It's something most people take for granted. So like, presented in a standup format the joke would be something like:
"Have you ever noticed that if someone asks you if you'd like to dance.... They're not saying anything about dancing together? (Audience chuckles)"
You could even structure the joke in such a way that it doesn't involve someone being a jerk, maybe you'd find that more palatable. E.g:
"So anyways, one time at the club this gorgeous lady asks me if I'd like to dance. And I'm thinking, well, sure I guess. So I went up to the floor and started... (Comedian dances ridiculously, audience laughs). And when I look back at her she looks at me like I just killed her dog or something! (Audience in shambles) and that's when I realized... Oh! You meant like... (Comedian points back and forth between himself and audience)...together? Well why didn't you just say so?! (Audience collectively dies from laughter)"
If you couldn't tell I don't really like standup, lol. But the point is that the joke isn't about misleading someone or being a jerk. Its fundamentally a language joke.
I cried when the clown beckoned for the student clown to come closer, expertly keeping the pie hidden behind his back. I tore my clothes and threw ash over my head when the student clown crafted a second pie unbeknownst to the head clown. Woe humanity, will this cycle of violence never end?
Humor is subjective. Just because you might not find it funny doesn't mean others can't.
I feel itβs funny precisely because of how it betrays your expectations with the setup. If it happened to you - outside of the comic - itβd leave a sour taste, but also youβd probably be laughing a bit in a βdid that just happen?β kind of way.
Thanks. I came to the fediverse hoping to find a less toxic environment and was already thinking i made an error. Yeah, having fun at other peoples expense isn't very funny.
Look in a mirror.
