She felt uncomfortable telling Nègre that she wanted return to the office to use the toilet, so told him she was cold as an excuse to go back to the building. But she says he walked away, guiding them towards the banks of the River Seine, so she told him she needed to find a toilet urgently.

"He looked me right in the eye and said, 'Oh, do you need a wee?'

"I felt like a child. I thought it was really weird the way he looked at me, almost gleeful."

She says he directed her to the door of a storage cupboard under a bridge on the Seine and said: "You can do it here."

Now, Anaïs is one of nearly 250 women who believe Nègre drugged them in alleged incidents between 2009 and 2018, subjecting them to what is known as chemical submission, where drugs are used to gain control over someone.

That man has a wild last name. For the non french speaker : it's literally the N-word.

[–] rezad@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Negro denotes 'black' in Spanish and Portuguese, derived from the Latin word niger, meaning 'black'

the USA slavers used the derogatory (or pejorative) diminutive (removed) to belittle and dehumanize the black slaves that Spanish and Portuguese slavers sold to them.

the name of this monster is not weird outside of USA.

No, the name of this monster is LITERALLY the N word, not the spanish "negro", I speak spanish as well and I am aware of how it's said. Black in french is NOIR ans that's how we call someone who's black. His last name is not the spanish negro, it is the french N word. French is my mother tongue, I think I can regognize it from spanish.

no that’s just wrong. that word is extremely offensive in many parts of europe and in canada as well, and i don’t doubt it’s offensive in other places too. it is absolutely offensive in france (and other francophone parts of europe/america) too.

the word negro is literally word black in those two languages.

are you telling me that those speaking those two languages just no longer use that word?

and as the other guy "i refuse to let American racism to ruin another thing."

In case you didn't know, France speaks French, not Spanish or Portuguese.

Try calling people "nègre" over here and see for yourself.

Besides, "preto" is (AFAIK) more used than negro in Brazil. As americanised as Brazil is, I believe their own history gives them the right to adapt their own language if they wish to.

I understand that France is not Spanish.

what I said was that those words are not bad word in their own language and we should not ban words because of anther country's fucked up society.

also good for Brazilians for changing that and using another word for it because that word has intimatecultural roots in their country (biggest slave population was not USA but Brazil (almost half of them)). so Brazil (if they want to) can use that word. but spain doesnt have to. (but it can of course do so).

Well, the word "nègre" is really a french word and really really offensive here? What is even your point, the letter è doesn't exists in spanish nor portuguese

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org -1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Exactly. I argued with a friend of mine because of this, they've always been called that here, not as an insult, and i refuse to let American racism to ruin another thing.

Check my original reply to the guy. Black in french is NOIR. His last name is straight up the french N word, we have that too, we are perfectly capable of being racists. The rest of the world can be racist without the input of the US.
