Watching Les Stroud suffer on Survivorman was more entertaining anyhow.

The shows served different purposes.

Bear Grylls's show was meant to be educational. Like, "if you're in this situation, here's what you can do."

Survivorman was a challenge show, albeit with one contestant and no grand prize. Not too different from Alone.
