The issue is the USA's giant flocks from the oligopolist's farms andcontracted farms, who themselves are shortchanged and exploited by the meatpacker cartel.
in the king corn documentary you hear from this guy who is processing chickens outdoors and talks about flak he gets with regulators and he is like you test our chicken next to the ones in packages and it comes up better and the ones in the package was bathed in bleach solution. Its been awhile so im paraphrasing. good documentary though.
That issue is not unique to the US, both in terms of giant factory farms and consolidation. Factory farming is the dominate mode of global meat, dairy, etc. production

In Canada, there is a set number of chickens.
Sure it's worse in the US, but that's not saying a lot. The meat, dairy, egg, etc. industries aren't that much rosier in Canada or anywhere in the world
There's still plenty of factory farming Canada, practices like Gestation Crates are still dominant at 70% of pig farms in Canada, there's an active ongoing lawsuit about Ontario's ag-gag laws at the Canadian Supreme court right now, etc.
Hogs aren't supply managed and the difference is apparent. And absolutely, i'm no vegan but fuck Doug Ford's industry kowtow with the ag-gag law.
Kinda wild that most store-bought chicken doesn't taste good at all. At least it's not making us sick. 😄
I don't diss supply mgmt. Just personal taste opinion. I think supply mgmt is very important for us and its benefits are obvious.
Chicken parts sold in the store in the US are absolutely monstrous compared to Canada, the typical grocery store chicken thigh is half the size in Canada.
That's crazy. The Canadian ones are monstrous compared to what we used to grow in our European backyard thirty years ago.
