Why would he tell a transparent lie like that? It's obviously a distraction, but a distraction from what?
Is it a distraction from the Epstein files, or any of Trump's countless other crimes and criminal behaviors? Obviously.
But maybe he's also specifically trying to cast himself as a victim because he was the one who set the whole thing up. Guys, I'm thinking that Trump did 9/11.
He sees Mamdani trending in the news with 9/11 disclosure and he immediatly reacts to get the attention.
This is most likely the real reason IMO
He lies even when there's nothing in it for him. Trump and the truth are never in the same zip code.
epstein files is the main reasons there are all these gaffes on MSMs, and they are complicit because most of the owners are on it too.

As another dude said it's dementia. It's a relatively common thing where as their sense of reality slips they basically start to claim absurd shit. It's sad when it happens to most people since it's generally a really bad sign of how far they've degraded, but with Trump eh fuckem.
I'd say it's a distraction from being the worst president in American history with the midterms coming up. Epstein files are about 80% forgotten at this point.
It's probably a lot of issues, like everyone else is saying, but I think the thing getting the most coverage that's going poorly for him right now is the failure of a war with Iran. Right now, I'm assuming most things are attempting to distract from that specifically.
It's just what power means to someone like him. He can say what he wants and everyone has to accept it. You have no meaningful ability to hold him to account for the lie. That's power.
