2009, 2012, and 2014 kind of established that defenders cant get it anymore.

At least its looking like true QB only now, rather than RB being the only non-QB exception.

They should accept that MVP is a "QB of the year" award and create next to it a new award (something like "most outstanding player") for the best player of the season, regardless of position.

Perhaps one for offense and one for defense? You could even call them something fun like offensive and defensive player of the year!

Or make a qb of the year award and start giving players that aren't quarterbacks the MVP.

Thing is, the best QB will always be the "most valuable" player, in the current NFL, over any other position, no matter how outstanding the best Edge, WR or RB of the season might be. QB is a position of such outsized impact on the team, there's no other parallel in any other team sport.

The only way to properly recognise and reward excellence in other positions is to get the concept of "valuable" out of the way.

Or you separate QBs who have higher positional value, and reward the Most Valuable Players at the other 21 positions. MVQB and MVP.
