The Grizzlies went on an 11-3 run coming out of this timeout, so I think he succeeded in firing them up to some extent. But it was too little, too late.

Be glad he got to play for a winner. Lots of players just as good or better waste away on trash teams and never get a taste.

It’s funny to me how much more sympathy this sub has for Marcus Smart compared to Memphis fans or players.

It's largely cause the Ja←→Memphis mental connection is pretty strong. People don't feel bad for Ja so they don't feel bad for things that are closely related to Memphis (fans, long term players, FO). Marcus is still not really associated with Memphis in peoples heads so the vibes from Ja don't get passed over to him.

  1. Memphis fans choose to be a fan. Smart got traded.
  2. Marcus Smart is a Memphis player.
