The Clippers are now 4-7 since trading for Harden, or 0-1 in his "ready" state.

Memes aside, he was okay this game, but okay isn't good enough when you're with a fully healthy Clippers vs a Reggie Jackson-led Nuggets.

Harden isn't exactly playing terribly as a Clippers, but at this point in his career, it's hard to justify an offence-first player on a team as offensively stacked as the Clippers when they're in desperate need of some more off-ball movement.

Harden is looking to secure a max extension, we'll have to see what kind of contract he can muster as he gets more into game shape as the season progresses.

Would anybody even be surprised if maxey is better than harden in 2 years?

Probably 99% of anyone with a decent amount of NBA knowledge would be surprised by that

… Jesus. That one is embarrassingly bad. Love it when they’re smug and stupid in one swoop

I can't give you full credit, OP. It seems that you and the other posters who responded were discussing if Maxey can reach Harden's 2021 level of play, not just simply pass him up.

Yes, Maxey improved in two years, but not THAT much. Harden's regression since then plays just as much of a role in the upside switch between the two as any other factor. I mean, by the '01/'02 season, Ray Allen was a better player than Jordan, so it happens.

[–] karthik4331@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

I just thought it would be fun to look up that stats.

Jordan averaged 23/6/5 with 1.5 steals, 0.5 blocks on 42% FG.

Ray Allen averaged 22/5/4 with 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks on 46% FG .

That's actually pretty close lol. I expected a really big difference

Take the upvote

[–] Natepizzle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I love your follow up downvoted comment, "in 2 years Harden won't be there either"

People don't realize that Harden was on the decline and you plan for the future, not what they used to be... especially for a player who has no real connection to that city

[–] foxxyboyy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wish I saved mine where I said I wouldn’t trade Jaylen Brown for Harden a few years back

[–] WayofHatuey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

u/jayowenwest is Juntaos nephew

[–] juandell@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You deserve your "i told you so" moment 👊

[–] EpicOne1337@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

I really like seeing these kinds of threads where there are like 20 comments calling the downvoted person a nephew and in hindsight being completely wrong lol.

In this case I feel like the take wasn't even that far off the rails, especially as recent as it was (w/ as little disrespect to Harden as possible, obviously dude's still the 4th best SG and one of the greatest offensive players of all time)- he was already 32 back then, with a heliocentric game relying heavily on athleticism, and was already notorious for being a pylon on defense and going wild in the offseason. I don't think I would've gone as far as saying Maxey would be better by now, but I was definitely on the side of thinking he'd decline pretty rapidly.

I love this man's vocabulary

[–] porncollecter69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (13 children)

Because we’re in the now. It’s hard to evaluate the future.

I can say in 3 years Lively is going to be the better than Embiid and you would have to call me nephew and I would agree.

Meanwhile in 3 years, lots of things can happen. Like injury.

[–] mommathecat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Father Time is undefeated, and even 2 years ago Harden was past his physical prime.

Maxey had nowhere to go but up.

OP wasn't even suggesting that Maxey would definitely be better, just that it was entirely possible. And, of course it was.

They really called you a nephew 🤣

[–] GSWB2B2B2B2BChamps@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How do you keep track? Reddit's save function is so bad. Or did you have a RemindMe set?

[–] _Juntao@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

No, didn't have a remind me set. Don't know how you access reddit but I still have the rif app and it's very simple on here. I literally have 100s of comments saved from memes to reaction gifs to prediction comments lol

[–] rookie-mistake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

....you still have rif? bro, how? the official app is so garbage, half the time when I play a video it just starts autoplaying audio from another video on the sub

To be fair, you were right but we're all still surprised

[–] wchi14@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Time proves you're correct my bro

[–] spicywardell@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

they called him a nephew

[–] CosmicCirrocumulus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

u/JayOwenWest u/BluCSGO u/Niceguydan8 and u/T26_00 have some apologies to make.

if any of you genuinely believed it was a nephew take even prior to the Harden/Simmons trade then you either lack the ability to imagine the future or you were lying to yourself from the start. a young player that has made leaps and bounds every single season he played wasn't going to be potentially better than an aging star clear as day on the decline come two years? FOH ya clowns

[–] indoninjah@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's wild that saying a 25 year old will be better than an injury prone 35 year old is controversial lol

[–] rookie-mistake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

he's 34 and he was an ironman for the Rockets. this was 2 years ago, it was that season and after where he started getting a bit more injury prone. dude's easy enough to criticize without exaggerating lol

edit: also wait maxey is 23. are you from the future?

[–] McBrungus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dude this fuckin rocks. This is the good stuff

[–] RecalcitrantDuck@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The craziest part of that is that 24 y/o Maxey being better than 35 y/o Harden wasn’t that unbelievable back then. It’s a promising young player vs an aging superstar. It’s like comparing 2025 Lillard vs Jalen Williams or somebody

[–] JimmyButlerOverdrive@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

talk yo shit, king

[–] garynevilleisared@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Only took 1 year. That's why you were down voted obviously /s
