/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I fucking hate Neelix. and Tom Paris. Chakotay also annoys me.

All of those actors were also pulled down by the Kazon, IMHO. They just ruined it for everyone.

Actually though, Neelix got better once he got a little more depressed and serious. Tom Paris wasn't bad when he wasn't acting like a child. Chakotay was fine when he wasn't babbling on about pseudo-native indian culture that usually ended up being borderline racist. (While I am not Native Indian, it seems like it would be insulting to have some cultural aspects twisted in the way Voyager did sometimes.)

I still try to watch the first few seasons of Voyager, but always end up jumping past anything Kazon. Voyager gets much better when that story arc is out of the picture.

Side note, Voyager is probably my favorite series and my criticism is just overly sharp. I really do enjoy it, but those first season are a bit rocky.

I wouldn't blame VOY for it though. I mean, they actually got a consultant to get the stuff right, he just happened to be a hardcore fraud.

Voyager gets better when 7 shows up.

I think her story grounds the show a bit better.

Her character development, and dynamic with doc were quite enjoyable.

Can't complain about the outfit either...okay maybe a little from an in universe POV, who the fuck gave her that dress? And why did no one make her change?

this is my first star trek series. it's not bad at all. some of the characters grate though.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Paris was poorly developed, but...fine.

I don't get the Neelix hate at all though. But that's cool.

Yes, exactly the same for me.
Just too much stereotypical stuff going on there. Of the guys Doc & Tuvok are the least annoying & feel like 'planned' characters. And the latter one caused Tuvix, which was just a walking intergalactic crime on abominations, so that leaves me with the glitchy software.

(But actually all characters at some point lean way too much into a single one of their stereotypes, like in a tabletop rpg.)
(And yes, I also like Voyager very much :))

Janeaway is great. Tuvok is alright. the Doc is interesting. Seven of Nine is a bit over powered.
