Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

MODERATORS

CBS News, hosting vice presidential candidates JD Vance and Tim Walz for the general election campaign’s third debate next week, says it will be up to the politicians — not the moderators — to check the facts of their opponents.

No holds barred free for all. I like it. This is going to be an amazing debate. Midwest against I have no idea what the hell Vance is.

[–] alquicksilver@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago (2 children)

what the hell Vance is

A couch-fucking weirdo, from what I've heard.

[–] winterayars@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 month ago

Well there's no way to fact check this so i guess it'll have to stand.

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

I've been seeing a lot of people saying he also has syphilis. Must be true because I want it to be.

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

"No holds barred" is still an honest fight.

"No facts checked" favors the opponent who has no real principles or policy to defend. It's like walking in the ring shotgun and the refs being like okay y'all on your own.

It's gonna be an absolute shit show and basically be a demonstration on how well can a liar Vance lie without being too obvious about being a liar. Best we can hope is that Walz will make it very obvious.

Hopefully there will be a second or 2 to slip in something of more substance while we wipe the shit off our faces.

Here is how you win. Prepare for lies. Do a quick fact check during each round and then punch him in the face with the truth. Laugh at him regularly for being a lying clown. Treat Vance with no respect.

Also mention couches every 2 min

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 2 points 1 month ago

Ha ha ha yes!!

Vance and Trump keep making the same lies even after they're debunked, so Walz could make a bingo card ahead of time.

Midwest against I have no idea what the hell Vance is.

Ohio is also considered the Midwest.

[–] pezmaker@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Eh, only really to people in Ohio and not in the Midwest.

Or maybe that's just my upper Midwestern heritage coming through. To us, it may as well be Pennsylvania, and nobody calls that the Midwest.

[–] dcpDarkMatter@kbin.earth 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Minnesota here - in no way is Ohio in the Midwest.

[–] Bassman1805@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Midwestern here.

I think the fact that EVERY Midwesterner mutually shits on Ohio at any opportunity kiiiiinda makes a case that they're Midwest also.

There are other states MORE deserving of the shit-talk, but it's not personal and visceral the way every other Midwestern state hates Ohio.

[–] dcpDarkMatter@kbin.earth 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's not shitting on them - Ohio is simply too far east to be in the Midwest.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Ohio is the eastern border of the Midwest, as defined by the Census Bureau.

[–] pezmaker@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

It's round on the sides and hi in the middle. Oh hi oh hio.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

it is according to census bureau definition.
