Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.
Example:
- Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
- Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
- No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
- Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

putin be like: I have the epstein tapes. Do what I tell you or the whole world will see you banging minors
.
Why do you reply to comments an hour after they were deleted ?
My bad, realised too late (replied from inbox).
It's weird that it shows up there as non deleted. I've had that happen to me as well.
I don't think you can delete comments at all, they just get flagged as deleted and don't show up.
Try for yourself. After you deleted a comment you can still edit it.
I started editing my comments after deleting so there only is a dot.
I'm going to delete this comment.
edit: i deleted it and I am editing
edit: oh wow that's interesting.
Yep, and I still see your whole comment in my inbox. The latest version though, so it appears my editing trick should work as intended.
I feel like they should advise you about this when you delete something or do the . by default.
You should always be aware that anything you post online might not be deletable after you post it, even if the platform itself has a delete button.
On that platform, the delete button might actually be a hide button (or a hide and flag button, since deleted comments might be more likely to be interesting, since the author changed their mind about saying it).
But even if the platform does honour the delete action in good faith, crawlers could have already saved it. There were sites specifically for showing deleted comments for Reddit before the API change, and I wouldn't be surprised if there are some today that just parse the html.
With the way the fediverse works, someone could create their own implementation that specifically highlights the parts that most servers hide. Like deleted posts, voter identities, I think even private messages that cross from one instance to another.
Safest to assume that once you post something, it's out there forever and might not be as private as you'd like. And, depending on the platform, even those posts that get written but then the author decides to close instead of post could be saved somewhere. If the text has any real-time interactions with the server, the question is if the client or server is responding to those. For example, I don't think that Google sends all search suggestion possibilities to all clients so they can locally suggest searches based on text entered.
Also try typing @ followed by random letters here. The server is open source, which means you can look at what it does. But it also means instance admins can edit that code to do whatever on their server.
Well I know that not everything is deleted and it's often just a flag, but I'm more annoyed that the lemmy UI's don't respect the flag, even if the content is still there.
Well TIL as per my other test comment.
Like genuinely,
If there are Epstein tapes, with video evidence of Musk or Trump or Prince Harry (or Gates or Soros or whoever) having sex with children, will there be any consequences?
As in for everyone? As these kid diddling failups squirm and concede ground to an obvious kleptocratic fascist?
Yes absolutely.
As in for them personally when the tapes are released?
No, not particularly.
It's possible because if Putin releases his compromat, he's also pulling his protections, so anyone that steps in line to defend that person because Putin is still using them either won't say anything or will be right there with the ones that want them to face justice.
With the added bonus that taking that position will make it even more devastating for them if Putin later decides he wants to release their compromat.
You should go educate yourself on how chomos and those with violent offenses against women are treated in prison, and then report back.
Chomos in gen pop get hurt, although I’m not sure why I would be content with vigilante prison “Justice”. But Trump or Prince Harry wouldn’t be placed with the general rabble, even in the unlikely event they ever face any form of punishment.
You asked if there would be any consequences in the face of proof that Donald Trump or anyone else was committing sex crimes against minors. That is why I gave the reference I did.
Let's wait and see what happens with Diddy. I am confident he will be hanging from the top bunk just like Jeffrey Epstein long before he exposes any other powerful people who were involved with his sex crime syndicate.
Once you give up the game, or bring exposure to it you are promptly liquidated.
I wouldn't be surprised if Putin had his own similar operation, only using state-level power instead of just money to recruit girls who could take the driver's seat and bring unsuspecting Johns back to hotel rooms rigged up with cameras anywhere in the world instead of needing to do it all on an island or at his home address.
Followed later by threats of releasing the footage (stick) vs promises for more similar episodes (carrot), though with the understanding that those carrots will be used as more sticks if they don't cooperate.
I think about that scene in Borat 2 where Rudy Giuliani clearly thinks the interview is really about sex and proceeds without a second thought about the camera. I also think about how he completely imploded his career, reputation, and maybe life by fighting a legal battle he knew had no merit (and maybe even deliberately sabotaged because, while he liked the sex, he might have actually had qualms about enabling a Trump coup... Like four seasons landscaping, seriously? Not knowing basic court procedures after his career was based on prosecuting the Italian mafia?).
Just a hunch anyways, probably nothing.
Edit: wording
I dunno, they threaten to release a video of me banging a hot Russian chick? Go for it.
Come on now. If they want to blackmail you, they can adjust the scenario in various obvious ways to make it far filthier than that.
Oops, I forgot to mention that the women are actually underaged, which isn't revealed until after the deed is done and could even involve giving someone who is of age paperwork making it seem like they are underaged or even just lies without paperwork.
Or another angle is you might be married and the threat is to ruin your marriage and expose you as a cheater (which can also ruin personal and professional relationships outside of your marriage).
Good thing I always demand two forms of ID and keep photocopies in my records!

Nah, Putin will hit him where it hurts: He'll fire a missile into space to destroy the Tesla Elon put up there.
I'd be surprised if he can get anything in an orbit that far out. The last time the Russians went translunar, they crashed into the moon.
I don't think anyone really has missiles that can do that. It was intended to be a joke about Elon's ego.
Missiles are rockets, too.
