Seeing a lot of “nobody cares” in this thread which tells me that a lot of you don’t have any trans or queer friends. Representation absolutely matters and I will feel extremely proud until this blind motherfucker costs the Knicks a game.
I think (some/many) people mean well when they say they don't care, but I think that's a disappointing response. Saying you don't care when a marginalized group finally gets representation within an industry means you didn't care that they were not previously welcome in that industry. "Firsts" matter because they are the end of "nevers."
There was no formal ban or anything on trans referees and the first female ref was in 1997. I dont think there was anything stopping trans individuals from becoming referees. There is no gender limit or anything.
This just seems like a needless celebration of identity politics. I dont care what the gender of my ref is. Or the race. Or the religions. Just that they get the calls right.
Same people who say "I don't see color" then viciously deny that America suffers from systemic racism
Love this comment man
No it doesn’t
Nah fuck that. I have friends that are both, and I still don't give a fuck. They are my friends because I like them as people and we have common interests. What they identify has no factor in our friendship.
Same way, with what you identityas should be a non factor in your job. How good you are at your job should.
"I don't see color."
“I think universities should discriminate based on race in admissions”
Willing to bet that your queer “friends” feel differently but just don’t feel like sharing that with you, because you’re the type of person who acts like this shit doesn’t matter. Me? I grew up with Buffalo Bill being the sum total of trans representation in all media, so I’m pretty happy to see that the next generation of trans kids won’t only be able to see themselves on TV as serial killers and freaks.
You're on Reddit, all that matters is virtue signaling about the current thing and patting each other on the back about it.
Merit is no longer a consideration. How ethical, right?
