Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Meanwhile, contrapoints with the most stupid takes imaginable.
You can't just blurt things out like that and not provide examples.
She made a enlightened centrist post amd talked about how pro Palestine sentiment made Kamela lose.

meh it’s pretty clear right at the top she is talking about the harmful rhetoric and tactics from tankies/accelerationists, not pro-palestinian sentiment itself.
my trans, poc, and migrant, AND palestinian neighbors in my town are afraid for their lives and families daily, and it really hurt to see tankies tweet “bombala harris” back before november when we KNEW what a trump presidency would mean.
for my part, i have remained staunchly pro-palestine without ever going down the tankie path. and i too wish that better rhetorical and tactical choices were made by some on the left in the interests of the palestinian plight.
in another section of this post (this is just a clipping) she defines these rhetorics and tactics and it has to do with creating learned helplessness with no communicated outlet.
tldr, equating “rhetoric” with “sentiment” as you do in this comment is pretty bad faith and natalie’s post doesn’t read as problematic at all to me.
Is there a tankie subculture in the USA? Where do they congregate IRL? Somehow I thought the online presence was from other countries
unfortunately yeah that subculture definitely exists and really gets around
What a weird effort to shoehorn leftist purity testing into everything.
i don’t see a single conflict between either’s words on international politics? but your comment would be more valuable with examples
without examples seems like ur just comparing two rly talented female creators for like some reason
Haven’t watched contrapoints in a long time, but I used to like the channel for the most part. What are the stupid takes you speak of?
She made a big long post about Palestine a week or so ago
Seems pretty well reasoned out to me. Much more realpolitik than idealism
ooh new words to describe these topics thanks i will be looking into this!
As much as I understand where her concerns come from, she's also an idiot with a powerful habit of overly long and intellectualized responses that only make things worse for herself. The entire way she frames things is "I support everything you want me to, but..." which is a losing way to structure a response to people being frustrated with her. She can't help herself and simply say "I donated to a and b, here's a shout-out, this is horrible, but I also make .75 videos a year max and have something else I'm focusing on."
I think she likes making trouble and is a prickly person in general. She recognizes that antisemite muslims can potentially abuse leftist anger at Israel, but expects her defeatist attitude to be an effective way to convince people. She just wants to be able to say "I told you so" when some anti Israeli conservatives who hung out with the left do something bad, not get leftists on her side right now.
A week? It more than a month ago.
Lol yeah you're right, the time part of my brain is so broken with the speed of everything these days
Am I missing something? The last Contrapoints video came out over 5 months ago
What does Contrapoints have to do with the topic at hand? It seems very random to bring her up without any context or example.
Contrapoints and Lindsay are friends and tend to reference each other in videos.
She really was just nuanced about American leftist responses. But I guess nuance is hard for leftists who voted for Trump out of spite.
