Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

President Donald Trump said he is designating the far-left anti-fascism movement Antifa as a terrorist organization, announcing the move on his Truth Social platform in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time.

It wasn’t immediately clear what mechanism Trump would use to make the designation, and Antifa lacks centralized structure or defined leadership, making it unclear who or what precisely would be targeted.

“I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION,” Trump wrote. “I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

A White House official told CNN, “This is just one of many actions the president will take to address left wing organizations that fuel political violence.”

Trump — who’s overseas for a formal state visit — signaled the move earlier this week in remarks from the Oval Office following the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

To be a terrorist organization, don’t you first have to be… an organization?

[–] logicbomb@lemmy.world 184 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Or at least commit acts of terrorism?

How do you add "no terrorism" to "no organization", and come up with "terrorist organization"?

Antifa's Wikipedia page has a similar juxtaposition:

Several analyses, reports, and studies have concluded that antifa is not a major domestic terrorism risk. On September 17, 2025, Trump announced plans to designate Antifa as a "major terrorist organization."

See, that’s a double negative, so the “no’s” cancel each other out, therefore you are left with a terrorist organisation

YOU TRUST WOKEPEDIA?! DATS ANTIFA PROPAGANDA! /s

Double negative. minus x minus = plus

EDIT: fixed

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 61 points 5 months ago (4 children)

That's why they want to do it. If there's no hierarchy or apparatus, no Central structure, no actual organization, well that all just means that they can call you a member if they want and there's nothing to dispute it. It's perfect for them.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 35 points 5 months ago

Plus, so many of your rights are stripped once you are charged with terrorism, so as they continue to pass laws that bypass due process they can just use this to round up citizens and put them in camps

"Enemies of the state"

[–] psoul@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

They want a witch hunt? Those witches HEXED Charlie Kirk.

[–] defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

First they came for the communists...

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 5 months ago

Actually, they came for immigrants first. Arguably black people.

Pedantry aside, the poem you're referencing is 100% applicable.

We've been at war with categories and concepts for decades, this isn't really different.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 5 months ago

We've always been at war with the concept of Eurasia

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 17 points 5 months ago

Don't tell anyone but I heard the CEO of antifa was Charlie Kirk.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

That was my first question.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

That’s exactly what a terrorist disorganization would say.

[–] Redjard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 months ago

The notorious hackers anonymous and 4chan soon to be arrested. Hope they rot in prison together with the leadership of the trans agenda.

[–] Hector@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Apparently no. We are in a post-truth society, reality lost, it is whatever they say it is. That is until we get some real leadership

[–] ChimpChamp22@reddthat.com 1 points 5 months ago

Politicians are not meant to be leaders.

It’s the same thing they do with claiming some random tattoo is a gang tattoo.

It’s difficult to prove an actual crime was committed by someone than to create a scary boogeyman “organization” and just convince people you’re guilty by association. It’s even easier when you can change the characteristics of the boogeyman to match the person you’re trying to prosecute.

We’ve let it go on for decades, and now there’s plenty of precedent. We don’t stand a chance.
