  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Yeah! The Democrats are the real villains here!! Not the actual fascists running the show, doing the evil, pulling the triggers, deporting the innocent, ignoring the laws... Fuck off with this hindsight blame game shit. Fascism is here and the real blame lies on the American people.

It's probably another example of Murc's Law. And once you see Murc's Law in action, you can never unsee it. You'll see it everywhere, and every day.

https://whereofonecanspeak.com/2023/03/02/youve-probably-never-heard-of-murcs-law-but-youve-seen-it-in-action-lots-of-times/

Murc’s law is named after the insight of the eponymous LGM commenter that, in American politics, only Democrats are assumed to have agency. Republicans are like rocks rolling down hill or perhaps sharks eating seals: they do what they do because that’s just what they are, so there’s no point in holding them responsible for anything, since they could not do o[t]herwise.

[emphasis mine]

That great description from : https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2024/12/the-paradoxical-limits-of-murcs-law

This is the first I have heard of Murc's law. It succinctly describes the nature of American politics. It's uncanny.

But it's also very accurate because the right simply doesn't listen. They might as well be literal rocks. There is no discussion or debate to be had because they don't follow your reality or logic.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah, I've seen/heard it mentioned before, but The Professional Left podcast brought it up again. I'm fairly certain I've heard them mention it over the years, multiple times.

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-933-meanwhile-in-local-fascism/id352076108?i=1000727128679

Anyway, it provides convenient shorthand for something you just read/hear all the freaking time. It's like ever since I became politically aware, decades ago, it's been there, but hard to put a name to. I'm sure this goes way, way back to at least the 1950s: "The Democrats made the Republicans form the John Birch Society!"

Two things can be true at the same time.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip -5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How's that working out for you? Bringing meaningful change? Hmm?

[–] nondescripthandle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hows ignoring truths you don't like working out for you? Bringing meaningful change? Hmm?

To over-simplify:

Republicans == evil

Democrats == complicit

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

Not the villains. But they should do what they need to do to balance the play field.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Bad take. It's not hindsight when everyone was screaming about it, again, literally over a decade ago, and no attempt was made by the Obama or Biden era FCC to regulate it. Maybe you personally weren't aware of how dangerous this issue was becoming, but many of us were, including, importantly, Democrats in Congress.

When a train is heading for you, and you see it several minutes away, it's also your responsibility to step off the tracks before it actually runs you over.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So you're saying that the Republicans planned for this, set in motion the plan and executed the plan, but the Democrats let it happen so it's on them. Why, I think that's a page right out of the narcissist handbook.

[–] xyzzy@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, that's the straw man you've created and attributed to me. I'm not going to continue this discussion, because it's predicated on reading comprehension and good faith.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Ooh you're one of those types. Gotcha. Enjoy the fall of America from your high horse, buddy!

I am not sure about that. The rich destroyed I our education and ability to live well in many cases. Uneducated people that are constantly exhausted and stressed are more easily manipulated. Goddammit I'm so sick of common people getting blamed for everything while the rich are the ones making shit worse, getting richer of our labor while they molest all these kids. The lobbyist like AIPAC and the billionaires need to be drained of resources and banned from ever doing business in the US again.
