Public documents show the Department of Homeland Security has contracted to purchase a pair of top-of-the-line Gulfstream jets for the secretary and other top officials.

The Department of Homeland Security has purchased two Gulfstream private jets for Kristi Noem, the secretary, and other top department officials at a cost of $172 million, according to documents reviewed by The New York Times.

The jets, which a department official said were needed for safety, are the latest expenditures on behalf of Ms. Noem to draw scrutiny from Democrats and other critics who have noted her lavish spending on living and other expenses during her time in public life.

It was not immediately clear where the funding for the jets came from.

I'm out of the loop - what's the deal with her hands?

[–] drhodl@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

She has old people hands. She is mutton dressed as lamb. Normally, there is nothing wrong with that, but in this instance it's a bell weather of how fake she is. Like Donny 2 Inches, it's all fake.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 57 points 1 week ago (3 children)

She’s (Obviously) had a ton of work done on her face in order to wrangle for power in the fascist traitor administration. (See also MAGA face)

One cosmetic surgeon listed a brow lift, a face and neck lift, an eyelid lift, a nose jobtransfer of fat to the face, Botox, fillersneuromodulatorsmicroneedlingfacialschemical peelslaser treatments, "medical-grade skin care products", and dental veneers among the procedures constituting Mar-a-Lago face.

However, human hands resist such elective cosmetic surgery such that when you see her bony, wrinkled, immigrant-damning, puppy-murdering, Lewandowski masturbating, crooked paws - they are in stunning contrast to her hair extended, eyelash woven, belt-sanded face.

And the corporate news will not publish pictures like that because it does the most harmful thing it could possibly do to this corrupt incompetent administration: it would damage their image, which is just about all they have.

So this is, once again for those unclear, the NYT supporting trump by refusing to show the truth.

Or we could just not make a big deal about someone's body...

I'm gonna be honest, I think you're on the wrong side of this.

Also, you could just focus on the 2 fucking private jets. Or on all the mistreat of Americans and ignoring their constitutional rights. Or being unethical and inhumane towards human beings in general. I think those are in fact the bigger problems here.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

They are clearly the bigger problems, yes.

But someone who trades so heavily on fake looks to implement nazi policy can get hassled about it and that's ok.

Or maybe the respectable media just doesn't do trashy tabloid level body shaming stories?

Nah it must be some insane conspiracy!

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If you think the media's pictures are an "insane conspiracy story", you're really not paying attention.

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I think they may be under the impression that people actually read the articles instead of staring at just the photos and trying to find some pattern to them.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Sure. You’re right, it’s probably fine and not a well studied phenomenon of the last forty years.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 11 points 1 week ago

That explains Melania's photos in a news article I read the other day.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

She probably has old lady hands.

[–] tal@lemmy.today 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

I will say that she has a rather different style than she used to.

Here she is as a House Representative for South Dakota, a decade and a half ago:

Here she is in Trump's cabinet:

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 27 points 1 week ago

What the fuck is wrong with these people? Like even from that old image you can tell she was aging relatively gracefully already, so unless the evil is just that corrosive why get the work? Is it just a shitty optics thing and how rich you have to be to blow that much money on that many shitty jobs?

Fuck I'm glad I'm descended from old money, tradesmen, and laborers who took pride in their age cause it will fundamentally stop me from ever considering this shit. Also I don't need work done to be unsettling on a visual level, my paleness and overall caveman appearance wrongfoots folks enough.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Holy shit I've never seen what she looked like before. That's a ton of work.
