Convenience is a 52x disc burner which can burn a disc in less than a minute
Wisdom is burning at 1x anyway because it results in a higher quality burn
(this may not apply to burning music, I usually burn PSX games)
The original 23 wire modchip installation was not for the faint of heart.
You can do the swap trick once to make a freepsxboot memory card now. It's essentially a soft-modded ps1.

Back in my day, we used the 52x to burn 52 discs simultaneously at 1x speed.
Well acshually… anything above 6x wasn’t actually what it said on the tin. CD data starts from the inside ring, and there’s a physical limit to how fast you can spin a plastic plate before it tears itself apart. So you only got the full 52x speed at the very last part of the burn on the outer ring, and even then only if you filled the whole disk.
I burned out my Wii disc drive by playing too many ganes burned too quickly.
I don't think my Wii disc drive does anything but rip games nowadays, I can't remember the last time I put in a disc to play the game on there.
