Nah I felt the same with Discovery and SNW. They both suffer from short seasons that don't really go exploring in favor of drama. SNW just seems more like a retread of TOS with Captain Pike. Are we ever going to go further in the continuity after 90s Trek?
While I want to say that the combined effort of JJ Abrams and DIS have thoroughly trampled that possibility. PIC
jj abrams started the decline of trek, and kurtzman just went with it, because he though it was people like lens flare, poor lighting, only flimsly action scenes.
std and snw suffers from kurtzmans agenda, and poor writing direction. not because its a short season. it was terrible form the get go, snw is somewhat better but the actors are so wooden in thier acting.
i forgot the nutrek has no exploration at all, its just a convoluted Enemy that turns out to be a dud. remember the "burn" its an overgrown manchild that screams and destroys ships in the future. a whole season build up only to drop it the next season.
Discovery soured me so much i haven't watched anything but Picard since.
Wise. Keep what little sanity and composure and faith in humanity you have left.
STD, picard are the poorest quality of nutrek, snw tries to remedy it, but it still suffer from poor acting and writing. and then comes academy? sec31? lower decks and prodigy however is quite reasonable.
Poor acting on SNW? I quite enjoy that show.
Discovery (aka the Michael Burnham mary-su express) and the first two seasons of Picard are awful. Third season of Picard gets a pass because it's basically a nostalgia trip that could very nearly qualify as TNG Season 8.
From what very very little I've seen of SNW, it seemed to break the established universe. E.g.: the illogical irrational hyper-emoting vulcans.
I've failed to force myself to keep watching past the first appearance of that.
Uh, Vulcans have always been illogical and irrational. This is partially because the writers tend to be bad at basic logic, but Trek has a looong history of Vulcans being pompous, racist assholes that are irrationally obsessed with tradition to the point they made it a de facto religion.
They are usually stone faced while they do it, though.
the actors including anson MOUnt acting was so wooden, its not even believable, lol. of course they always tease with the more interesting romulans and then drop them the next season.
